I> http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaforsyt/records/families/martin.html > Thank you Donna. This is helpful. I didn't know about this site before. I am trying to sort out why my Wm. Martin married in Forsyth County in 1840 to a young woman who lived there yet I can't find him living in the county. I believe the census was enumerated at the time they were married so maybe that explains it. However, his sister marries 18 months later in 1842 in Forsyth County. Where was she living and with whom? I am assuming there must have been family nearby but I haven't been able to find them. I search the censuses to see who fits the age range and could be a possible fit. So far all the other Martin families are accounted for. <Sigh> Ellen
MARTIN William 265 Males: 1(5-10) 1(10-15) 2(15-20) 1(40-50) Females: 1(5-10) 2(15-20) 2(40-50) Well this one is an Uncle to my Hix Martin if this helps you out any at all. Gail This does help! Can you tell me which other Martin's belong to you in Forsyth County? I am trying to sort through the Martin's in that county so I can hopefully sort out which Martin's may be mine. I spend so much time researching these other Martin's to rule them out as relatives when the time would be better spent researching my own lines. I would just like to know who they are and where they came from, and where they went so when I see their names, I know who they are. It is very hard when you don't have a lot of information on your family line and very common names (like my William Martin) and no known other family ties in the area. I don't live in GA: I live on the West coast so that makes it difficult, as well. I was thinking about posting on a website a list of the Martin lines in and around Forsyth County so anyone researching would be able to spend more time on their lines rather than sorting through all the Martin's. Sort of like a census: families that know who is living in the home in the 1840 census (or their best educated guess) could list the family members names and where they may be placed in the age category. Also, where the family migrated from, where they went, and other relatives in the area. Not their entire family history, just enough so one would know if this is the family they are searching for. It would save so much energy and time. Thank you for replying. It is greatly appreciated. Ellen

I "think" William Martin is the father of my Juliann b abt 1820 and married David ALLEN Landsdown in 1839 in Forsyth Co. Census says her father was born NC. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

This may very well be William Martin Jr. son of William Martin Sr. and his yet unknown wife. 1. William Martin, Sr. Neither his birthplace or date of birth are known. But he was living in Brunswick Co., VA on May 11, 1755 when his son Thomas Martin, Sr. was born. (My line) He later moved to Shatham Co., NC and bought 260 acres on the Haw River for sixty pounds on Nov. 6, 1784 from William Spurlin. William Martin, Sr. received a grant from the State of NC on Sept. 23, 1785 for 314 acres on the Haw River in return for the sum of fifty shillings per hundred acres. William Martin, Sr. died before July 23, 1795 for on that date his sons, Thomas Martin, SR. and William Martin Jr., are given as heirs when they sold the land he had recieved in the grant. Chatham Co., NC Deed records Book C, page 312. There is a bit more and I may can get this too you if you think it may help you out some. This man is related to Hix Martin who married Margaret Casey in 1844 in Forsyth Co. GA!! This does tie in somehow to what you want. Let me hear from you and get a off list e-mail for you please. I am sending this to the Gwinnett & Forsyth Lists because our ancestral properties were in both Counties. I am anxious to contact any descendants of Epp Morris STONECYPHER of Suwanee, Georgia. Mr. Stonecypher died in September, 1950 at the age of 91 years. Mr. Stonecypher may have worked for the County or may have lived on land that once belonged to the Benjamin PRUITT family. He gave something to my grandmother McGINNIS that I am anxious to share with others. Thank you, Gloria Ramsaur
