    3. Tricia are you in Gadsden by any chance? If so please can you do me a huge favor? I am so sorry but I know nothing about the Smith line from there. I need someone who can walk into the Library in Gadsden and look in the books of the old transcribed Newspapers for Gadsden Times Newspaper. I am trying so very had to learn who the children of E.A. Cothran known also as the JUDGE by his Nephew Charles Edgar Meeks. I connect into this family via Charles Mother Miss Mary Jane Cothran wife of William Marion Meeks the newspaper man. Charles took over after his Father died and retired to Miami, FL after May of 1964. So I have a nice amount of information on the Meeks. What I really need to learn is this: E.A. Cothran had children........................... Who were they? Boys or girls? What were their names? What happened to his wife? She was Miss Mary Ann White of Calhoun Co., AL old Benton Co. and that marriage is recorded in the old book held in Calhoun but for Benton Co. I have that record. That was 9/20 something without looking at it/1859 by 1860 they just up and vanished. I then found him in the newspaper articles on the Meeks family living nearby to them in Gadsden, AL. In fact working at the paper at the time of his death later after 1870. I have that article. I have most of the articles on the Meeks family, but am sure that some where there should tell in those old papers if he came to Gadsden alone, and when and from where? And also who his children were? I know he had kids..........................one of the articles on him did say "E.A. Cothran left today for Hamburg, AK to visit his children............................he will return after the first of the new year" I can search in Hamburg AK but without names it is sort of impossible as there are several people there with that surname at the time of 1870. Can you please help me out? 2. Jonelle Ellis Russell
    3. ALL I want for Christmas Dear Santa: Don't bring me new dishes; I don't need a new kind of game, Genealogists have peculiar wishes; For Christmas, I just want a surname. A new washing machine would be great, But it's not the desire of my life. I've just found an ancestor's birth date; What I need now is the name of the wife. My heart doesn't yearn for a ring That would put a real diamond to shame. What I want is a much cheaper thing: Please give me Mary's last name. To see my heart singing with joy Don't bring me a red leather suitcase. Bring me a genealogist's toy; A surname, with dates and a place! Anonymous ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm sure Santa's mailbox is overflowing, but I hope he answers your letter, and brings you the clue to get you through, over, under or around that genealogy brick wall. Best wishes to you and your families for all the joys the season can bring. May we all have peace and properity in the New Year. Jo Russell
