    1. [GAFORSYT] Re: Margaret (?) Martin
    2. Richard, I appreciate your reply and interest in my Margaret Martin but I may be confusing the issue. My Margaret's married name was Martin as used in Hall and Forsyth Co., GA, in the 1820s-1850s I don't know what her maiden name or a (possible) earlier married name was. Her three children all carried the Martin name. Though I definitely need to think about what you have said. Paul WhitePaul@aol.com

    1. [GAFORSYT] Martin, Margaret, 1830s-40s
    2. I am still trying to learn the background of Margaret Martin, a widow with 3 children, who won Forsyth land in the 1832 Lottery. She was living in Forsyth in later censuses. In the 1820s she was living in Hall Co., GA, and I believe that she and the three children were listed in the 1820 Abbeville SC, census. The only Abbeville marriage I can find where Margaret married a Martin is a Margaret Green married a Johnson or Jackson(?) Martin. Question- who was she married to and who was she possibly connected to in Hall and Forsyth? Any help is appreciated. Paul WhitePaul@aol.com

    3. After more days, months and years than I can count, I have finally started breaking thru to some older Anderson ancestors. As you will note, our James A. Anderson was born in S.C. Now I know that he and his family moved to Habersham Co. Ga in the 1820's when he was still a small boy, then on to Union Co. Ga by 1834. That would be about the time that he met Calinder G. James, his wife to be. I believe that we will find her somewhere in this area. I have linked up numerous other Andersons to ours in Cherokee Co, Ga, and the S.C. area. Watch this website. There will be more to follow in the coming weeks. www.angelfire.com/ga2/anderson .I owe a lot to numerous people who helped me along the way. Some are my sister, Jane Corley, my son, David Anderson, Debra Smith,Maggie Anderson,Brenda Webb, Donna Parish, Earlene Anderson,Sharon Bennett & Rudene Mathis,my aunt to name a few. I know I have left some out but you know who you are. Sam Anderson

    3. The United Methodist Church of Warsaw or Warsaw United Methodist Church, previously a Lord of Life Lutheran church and a United Methodist Church campground are about to be razed within a few days unless we let the commissioners know what a tragedy this would be. This church and cemetery go back to the 1800's and is in a beautiful condition. I understand the current church is wanting to sell to a developer and the developer wishes to place a small strip mall on this 3 acres. This is not a great idea - the cemetery is very precious as it has several civil war, world war I and other war veterans buried there. In addition there are several Masons, Woodsmen of World and other known entities buried there. The Findlay families and the Summerour families are two of the perhaps better known families buried there. The Findlay families are there from many days gone by. The cemetery is rather large, and contains many MEMORABLE items - one of which are the slab tombstones, and the memorials built by the Woodsmen of the World. I am very sorry to bring this to everyone at this late date, but I did not hear of this until yesterday, and was unable to get the pertinent information until today. I have posted several photos below for review - note they are large as I have not had time to reduce them. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gafulton/warsaw/EX000009.JPG http://www.rootsweb.com/~gafulton/warsaw/EX000011.JPG http://www.rootsweb.com/~gafulton/warsaw/EX000016.JPG http://www.rootsweb.com/~gafulton/warsaw/EX000017.JPG If everyone would be willing to send an email to the following, I would be much appreciative of the effort. It has also been a Lutheran Church and in 1987 it merged both Warsaw and Johns Creek to form the Johns Creek United Methodist Church. The historical and genealogical values to both Fulton County, Forsyth County, Medlock Bridge Road, The City of Alpharetta, Ocee, and Warsaw communities would be a terrible loss to all. In Gwinnett County their UMC Campground is a historic site and is promoted on their driving tour and by the County. It is a great attraction for Gwinnett. Why do we continue to allow our heritage to slip away and be torn down to implement shopping and strip malls. This property was never deeded to this church for a STRIP MALL, it was deeded for the church and cemetery. I am equally sure the people that donated it, and I believe to be buried in the cemetery, would not appreciate the leaders of our fair county destroying the very thing that they donated land for. Please let them rest in peace of the church along with the cemetery and keep the heritage of this place intact. The Summerour house is at the Autrey Preservation Site and many of the Summerours from that family are buried here, in addition to the Findlay families that I believe originally owned th e surrounding land. Please don't allow this heritage to be torn down, the cemetery and the people residing in the cemetery deserve to "rest in peace" as it states on many of the monuments there. The fact that there are civil war soldiers, WWI soldiers, WOW and Mason's buried therein make this a unique & historical place THAT SHOULD BE PRESERVED FOR THE FUTURE. The church which was built in the 1800's is in great shape, please ensure that the church is left standing because this history can never be replaced. YOU the Commissioners are the deciding factors on this -- please at the very least do not pass this at this time, give time for options to be worked with the parties - surely we can find another place for the strip mall and perhaps a donor to give the $ that the church wants and let the church stand. We were totally unaware of this situation until Friday of this week, there is not a rezoning sign on Medlock Bridge Road - for that reason alone it should @ the very least be tabled. However, we are asking you to search your heart and do the right thing - preserve this church and cemetery so that the heritage is here for future generations. 1. [GAFORSYT] Forsyth Trivia Jan 19 2003
    2. Talking about books brought to mind the first genealogy book anyone ever gave me. It was about 30 years and Mr. Marion Kiser, a member of the Historical Society gave me the book. He said "to show how much he appreciated my hard work". This was the book. LC Control Number: 72192737 Type of Material: Book (Print, Microform, Electronic, etc.) Brief Description: Starr, Emmet. Old Cherokee families: "old families and their genealogy." With a comprehensive index compiled by J. J. Hill. 2d ed. Norman, University of Oklahoma Foundation, 1972. 303-476, 94 p. illus. 28 cm. It was a big help with the Forsyth Cherokee Families although I soon realized how much wasn't there. This material is now online at http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/starrgen/index.htm (not my page) Later I learned that Emmett Starr was helped in the Hightower area by May Taylor's father and May gave her father's copy of the book to Forest Wade. Apparently May used to entertain the young ones after church out on the lawn with tales from the book and her father. Mr. Kiser's family sheet was the first one I ran when I was doing the Historical Society newsletter in the 70s. I have some correspondence in my files with Mr. Hill's secretary at the time and I realize how new I was and how poorly I asked my questions. A little later, Garland Bagley lent me his copy of this book which has much more material. LC Control Number: 78189676 Type of Material: Book (Print, Microform, Electronic, etc.) Brief Description: Bell, George Morrison, 1901- Genealogy of "old & new Cherokee Indian families." [1st ed. Bartlesville, Okla., 1972] 567 p. illus. 24 cm. Mr. Bell was a very nice man. I wished I could have afforded one of his books. It was really good. It had George Welch's family among others. George Welch of Forsyth County was one of the signers of the treaty trading the Cherokee land in the East for land west of Arkansas. On the Microfilm rolls of the Cherokee letters, I found where George Welch asked the government for protection as someone had tried to ambush him. Donna
