I have done a lot of research in early Phoenix, AZ newspapers and they have very similar little pieces on local residents. Have you considered gathering these together in a Web page and linking it to the Forsyth County Web Page? Or did you tell us you were going to do that and I have forgotten? 3. Notice- Hon. A. D. Candler will address the people of Forsyth county, at the dinner hour, on Tuesday of court week in August. Notice, Will H. Millwood, who is under contract with me, having left my employ without cause, this is to notify all persons not to employ said Millwook, under penalty of the law. BRYANT NUCKOLS. July 2d, 1898 The Picnic. The Picnic Saturday was a success. Speeches were made by J. P. Brooke, candidate for congress, Dr. Huckabee, candidate for senate, W. W. Wilson, editor of the Plow Boy, and representive J. R. Henderson. Dinner was plentiful. The young people utilized the time in having a good time. The music by the Cumming Cornet Band was fine and had the old time ring. Now let us encourage ours boys and let’s not have the band die any more. A New Lawyer. Clerk L. M. Orr went to Marietta last Friday, and after standing a very creditable examination, was admitted to the bar. So now he is a full fledged lawyer. Col. Orr is a young man born and reared in Forsyth county, and has, by close attention to business and study, forged himself to the front. We predict for him a brilliant career in his chosen profession. The Forsyth County Teachers’ Association. The association met at the Institute Saturday and th program as published was carried out. Sentences, Kinds and Classifications were discussed by Prof. Coley and Geo. L. Patterson. The discussion was interesting and brought out many questions from the teachers present. Orthography was discussed by Mr. Geo. M. Owens in a very interesting manner. After the rendition of the program it was decided to hold the next meeting with Hopewell Academy the 3rd Saturday in August. Will D. Upshaw and others will be invited to be present and make addresses. The attendance of this meeting was large and evidenced the fact that the teachers of Forsyth are of the right material. Let the meeting at Hopewell be a great educational rally. Our Schools. HIGHTOWER INSTITUTE-(Summer Term) is in charge of A. E. Booth, G. W. Coley and Miss Julia Jones. More than 90 pupils have already been enrolled and the work is moving along nicely. The outlook for the Fall term is the best in the history of the school. EBENEZER, is in charge of Geo. R. Brown, assisted by Miss Dolia Baugh of Athens. The enrollment is 97; the average for the past week has been 85. This is one of our largest schools and these are among our best teachers. FRIENDSHIP is in carge of H. C. Williams, with an enrollment of over 70. This is one of the best locations in the county and is one of the best schools among some of the best people to be found anywhere. WILLIS PIRKLE SCHOOL is in charge of Chas. T. Williams with an enrollment of 60, this school is 4 miles south-east of Cumming and one mile from the sparkling waters of the Chattahoochee river. Mr. Williams has taught here before and is liked by his patrons. HOPEWELL ACADEMY is in charge of Prof. Keene, assissted by Mr. J. E. Singleton with an enrollment of about 85. 3. In response to the census question, the only way that Elias SANDERS would appear on the Elbert, Franklin Co census is if they have records that go back to 1790's to probably the 1865 as that is the date I was given as his death. Can you shed any light this way??? gale sanders ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeff Smith <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, September 19, 1999 10:26 AM Subject: Re: [GAFORSYT-L] SANDERS/CARTER lookups > Elias Sanders b abt 1775 was buried under his kitchen and I've been > told it was because he didn't want to get wet, the kitchen was > appartently elevated above a sloping area in the > back of the house, my relatives tell me you can still see the stones > there but of course there are no inscriptions. > > gale sanders > > > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Jeff Smith <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Sunday, September 19, 1999 10:20 AM > Subject: Re: [GAFORSYT-L] SANDERS/CARTER lookups > > > > My family has been in Elbert County Georgia since at least 1807/08 > > when Elias SANDERS was given land. Elias Sanders b abt 1775 was buried under his kitchen and I've been told it was because he didn't want to get wet, the kitchen was appartently elevated above a sloping area in the back of the house, my relatives tell me you can still see the stones there but of course there are no inscriptions. gale sanders ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeff Smith <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, September 19, 1999 10:20 AM Subject: Re: [GAFORSYT-L] SANDERS/CARTER lookups > My family has been in Elbert County Georgia since at least 1807/08 > when Elias SANDERS was given land.
