As I read it, there's every possibility that you have found Daniel Garrett's first wife. We've been led to believe that she was a Stuart/Stewart and John Stewart's estate papers name Lavinia. I believe this is something that we will be "taking to the bank". As for the "Allen Powell and (Janey or Jincey) his wife", our Allen would have been 8 years old. Could've been a relative, though. 2. A wonderful monk in New England just sent us this... now here is the reason why we are all having such a difficult time finding our ancestors <grin> Enjoy .... Kelly James & Maria Lamberton Passing it on: THE ELUSIVE ANCESTOR I went searching for an ancestor. I cannot find him still. He moved around from place to place and did not leave a will. He married where a courthouse burned. He mended all his fences. He avoided any man who came to take the U.S. Census. He always kept his luggage packed, this man who had no fame. And every 20 years or so, this rascal changed his name. His parents came from Europe. They should be upon some list of passengers to U.S.A., but somehow they got missed. And no one else in this world is searching for this man. So, I play geneasolitaire to find him if I can. I'm told he's buried in a plot, with tombstone he was blessed; but the weather took engraving, and some vandals took the rest. He died before the county clerks decided to keep records. No Family Bible has emerged, in spite of all my efforts. To top it off this ancestor, who caused me many groans, Just to give me one more pain, betrothed a girl named JONES. by Merrell Kenworthy

    3. Geez, it's hard to sneak away unnoticed! Sorry for the problems anyone has had regarding the census pages........I loaded them fine just now. Does anyone know if the server may have been temporarily down at the time? I use Netscape Navigator to publish the page, perhaps that has something to do with it? I'm working on getting the pages down to fewer entries to make page downloads faster. Hopefully this will alleviate problems on slower machines. Bear with me, it takes time. Many, many thanks to Donna for taking care of things while I was away. She is a true "gem" and we are lucky to have her. As always, my sincere thanks to Donna, Marsha, Sharon, Wanda, and Lorene, for their continued work on the list and page, as well as our researchers who share their work. Last but not least, congratulations to the Mayor and Council of the City of Cumming! I'm sure everyone who has ever visited the city appreciates the beauty of the town square. For researchers coming into town, the City of Cumming holds a fair and festival every October which is extraordinary. It is like stepping back in time to visit Heritage Village, where you can find working demonstrations of a Cotton Gin, Saw Mill, Syrup Mill, with a lot of real history and pictures included. 3. Dear Lorene, My husband is a direct descendant Of John S. Garrett though # 5 on your list - who is actually Elze Lewis Garrett. Wife and children below. I can send notes and sourcesas well as descendants from most of these lines. They were my mother-in-laws grandparents through her parents John Henry Garrett m. Mary Elizabeth "Molly" Seabolt. Vella Garrett Jones, their daugher, and her husband Watson Jones are still living at 87, she the last surviving child. Elze and Rebecca raised their family in Union Co, Ga. where they are found in theCENSUS: 1870 GA Union Co., Coosa Dist, HH#934. living beside Rebecca Jane'sparents, Henry P. COCHRAN b: October 19, 1815 in NC/Ga. and Rebecca [Cavender] b: Abt. 1831 in Ga. m: July 23, 1846 in Lumpkin Co., Ga. I have the Cochran line pretty good too, thanks to information from a Bible that was sent to me. Have no death dates for Henry P and Rebecca, however. If someone knows that, I would appreciate the information. Every year, 2nd Sunday, we have a Garrett Reunion. I have been attending since 1961 when I went as my husband's date. I have quite a bit of information on this line, and am trying to collect more, as I request information at the reunions. If anyone is connected to these lines, I would love to exchange information. In the informtion at the end, which is your information on children on John S. Garrett, I have put my questions and comments from information that I have. Hope you can address these for me, and anyone else is welcome to make comments and help me out. He is not listed in household of John Garrett in 1850 or in 1860, but is listed as one of "Grandpa Garrett's (Elze.L) siblings on the Garrett Family information given out at one of the reunions probably in the 1960's or early 70's. He could have died in infancy?? Or could Thomas B be Thomas R. and he was called Richard?? GIP? I am sure that Gip is a nickname that may well belong to one of the children listed by name. Do not know which one he is. Based on the process of elimination, it is not George, Tom, Van, Jack, or Richard, since they were named on the Garrett family sheet from the Runion along with Gip. So that leaves Seaborn or Guilford, names I did not have until I received the information from Sharon B. Williams Mar 1, 1999. I have a story about "Seab" whose sister cut off his finger with an axe, but that doesn't seem to be enough to give the name Gip. I usually think of someone who is lame. But....? Susie?? Have no idea who she could be. Any help with this line would be much appreciated. And hopefully with references. My problem is that so much of my information is not documented by actual documentation, but by memory of older family members. Vella has a cousin, son of John Henry Garrett's brother who is in his 90's. He has told me a little, but remembers what I have when I mention it, but doesn't seem to be able to verify much of the information. They are the oldest in our line still living. Looking forward to hearing from you. Please correspond with me directly to help sort this out, then we can repost any additions or corrections. Billie Jones

I see in the Buice Marriage list: >>>>>>begin quote>>>> Joshua - Mrs. Adeline Venable 18 Sep 1859 ( Adaline Bagley - Sanford Venable 19 Oct 1848) buried Sharon Rev. J. 9 Jun 1832 - 16 Jul 1899 Adaline Bagley 1825-26 Jun 1910 (last Charter member of Sharon Church to die) John Henry son of J & A 1 Apr 1867 -12 Feb 1882 Mollie P. 17 Jan 1847 - 10 Jun 1914 (in plot) <<<<<<<<<<<<end quote<<<<<<<<<<<<< I know that the death date for Rev. J Buice on the tombstone at Sharron Cemetery is 1899. My question is: If Joshua died in 1899, who is the Joshua that I find on the 1900 and 1910 censuses with wife, Adeline, whose ages, birthplaces, marriage data, # of children, etc. match the Joshua who married Adeline Bagley Venable? Here is my extract of those two censuses: CENSUS: 1900 Gwinnett Co., GA E.D.55 SH7; BUICE, Joshua 61 b Apr 1839 SC; wife Adeline 73 b Jan 1827 GA; CENSUS: 1910 Forsyth E.D. 36 SH77; P. O. Big Creek Dist.; 4 May; BUICE, Joshua 68, married 2nd time 50 yrs.; wife Adaline 85, married 2nd time; 6 children/ 5living. Are there descendants of this couple who are researching who would like to compare notes? Melba

    1. [GAFORSYT-L] Current Forsyth County Information
    2. <A HREF="http://forsythcounty.com/">Forsyth County Georgia USA</A> aka http://forsythcounty.com/ has been kind enough to link our Forsyth County Genweb page and Donna Parrish's page as History Links for Forsyth County. They have just added a bulletin board and have links for schools, churches, government and other current information. If you want to see a good map of Forsyth County now, they have one. Click on maps. For that other information you need on Forsyth County which is not history, this is the link you need. ---Donna

    3. Looking for information on the surname HUMPHREY. I have Missouri Arena HUMPHREY. She was born Sept. 30, 1862 in Forsyth County, Ga. , Died June, 1884. Daughter of David Humphrey and Mahala Wilson. Missouri married Henry King WALKER Feb. 11, 1883 in Frogtown, Forsyth County, Ga. They had one child, Lillian Augusta WALKER; born June 24, 1884. She died April 6, 1878, buried in Rush Springs Cemetary. Missouri died in child birth. If you have any information on these surnames , especially the place where Missouri Arena died and Lillian Augusta was born , as this is my brick wall , I would appreciate it so much. If anyone else is researching this line I have information I would be happy to share. Thank You, Helen Cast [email protected]
