This marriage notice has nothing to do with any of my listservs, but it was so funny that I thought all of you would get a huge laugh out of a REAL marriage notice I found on microfilm. See below. Happy New Year! Ruth The Toccoa Georgia News - August 10, 1889 Charlie White and Mary Barnes of Central, S. C. arrived in the city last Thursday on the morning train, hired a horse and buggy, went to Clarksville, obtained a license, returned here, went before Squire Mulkey and got the matrimonial knot tied in time to return to Central by the night train. The newly married couple seemed as happy as a dead pig in the sunshine, but was sorter short on scads. They lacked 20 cents of having enough money to pay the Squire. Their baggage consisted of a quart of licker and tickets to Central. But they didn't want anything said about it in the paper, and of course their wishes will be respected. ++++++++++++ Folks, I was at the library today looking over the microfilm I had ordered through interloan library. The microfilm was on two reels from the University of Georgia and consisted of all the microfilm records they had on the Toccoa Georgia News in Habersham County, Georgia. This marriage record was just too funny to pass up even though it was not my ancestors. I promise you, I did NOT change a single word or punctuation! This newspaper came out on Saturdays so the Thursday in question would be August 8. 1889. It's pretty difficult to improve when one is already near perfect. If you haven't downloaded anything from anyone, you are safe. If you want more information, here is the rootsweb page explanation. At the bottom of the webpage there are links to more sites that explain it. http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/virus1.html
There is a worm circulating that comes in an attachment. When it gets into your computer it invades your Email and sends itself out as an Email from you or from someone that you have saved Email from with a subject line that appears in your saved mail. There are pages up at virus protection sites that explain this. The best thing to do is not open any attachments without confirming with the person who sent it, that they really did send it. Some of the email says it comes from Rootsweb which it does not. I will never send an attachment to any maillist. Nor to an individual without a separate Email first saying what I am sending and why first. Protect yourself. Ruth, Thanks for the neat site. I noticed Goodson on your surname list. Just wondered if you know about the Goodson lists available. There is one on Onelist < [email protected] >; a website that is full of info on Goodsons Url: http://goodson-family.com I think that there is one on rootsweb also, but couldn't locate the address right now. You can contact Phillip Goodson at <[email protected]> He is the site manager. I don't have (that I know of yet!!!) a connection to the Goodsons. I just think there may be some relationship between those Goodsons in Bibb Co with my 2nd great-grandparents, William Norris Pritchett and Malissa Alice Smith Pritchett [according to death certificate, dau of Foster Clayton Smith and (Cynthia?) McElroy Smith]. Joab Goodson was Capt. of Norris's company in the CSA. He wrote home to one of his nieces about Norris's injury, using only the given name for him while using the full names for the others who were killed or wounded. There is a group of his letters published in a two-part article in THE ALABAMA REVIEW, April, 1957(pgs 126-153) and July 1957(pgs 214-231) at Huntsville (AL) Public Library, Heritage Room. The article is very interesting to read and gives a lot of references to family and friends from Bibb Co., AL. They contain a lot of genealogical clues. (Philip has some of them on the Goodson site) Hope this helps, Melba in AL -----Original Message----- From: Ruth Padilla <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, December 12, 1999 10:56 PM Subject: [GAFORSYT-L] Neat Chart >I found this chart by accident.
