Pruitt was only listed in the index, I read the page 4 times and could not find a listing on him. He was born Oct. 6, 1894 in Paulding County, son of the late Robert Hamilton Carroll [Aug. 8, 1864 - Dce. 15, 1919] and Ellen Haynes Carroll [June 25, 1869 - May 31, 1938]. He was the grandson of George Wesley Carroll and Julia Lee. He had resided in Floyd County for most of his life. He was a member and deacon of Bethel Baptist Church and was a past chairman of the Board of Deacons. Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated a grocery store. His wife, the former Annie Mae Campbell [born May 21, 1892] died Sept. 15, 1959. Two son, Glenn Elmo Carroll [Feb. 26, 1917 - Oct. 02, 1964] and Robert Lee Carroll [Mar. 7, 1922 - Oct. 22, 1961], also died earlier. All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm Historic Marker 057-M - 1955 Georgia Historic Commission Georgia School for the Deaf Cave Spring, Floyd County, Georgia In 1833, a deaf man, John Jacobus Flournoy, of Jackson County, great grandson of Jacob Flournoy, a French Huguenot, urging education for the deaf, interested Governor Wilson Lumpkin and the Georgia Legislature in this educational movement. At first the pupils, few in number, were sent to the American Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb in Hartford. Conn. Distance, weather, and the youth of the pupils made that unsatisfactory. On May 15, 1846, with four pupils in a log cabin, with O. P. Fannin, teacher, this school began as a part of the Hearn Manual School at Cave Spring, Georgia. This school grew rapidly and, in 1847, a brick building was erected and dedicated. Later, other additions were made. The school was closed during the War Between the States and used as a hospital by both Confederate and Union forces. It resumed operations in February 1867 and is still supported by the State of Georgia. In 1955, this school had 82 teachers and employees and an income of more than $500,000. I don't think there is a Floyd County will book. But you can call the Floyd County Probate Court and they will send you a copy if they have the will. Hi, Marilyn! No, I do not know of a connection with our Pruitts. My T. M.'s father was William and his mother's name is unknown. T.M. was Tillman Madison? and he had a brother names Calvin and some half-brothers and sisters. One was named Zilman. They lived in Ga. and Al. on the state lines. Maybe, someday, we will find a connection so I am saving your info. I had a chance many years ago to look at the original when I found some errors in the dates of great grandparents tombstones. Since then someone has zeroxed the book, and it is in the library. Brenda, The Aycock book only states that J.F. Findley was a Doctor in Cave Spring, which is in Floyd Co., GA. He was listed in the American Medical Directory of 1916. A.W. Findley was a," Member of the House" in 1917-18 in Floyd Co., GA.In 1914 A.W. Findley was elected to the Legislature on April 28, 1914 in Floyd Co., GA. W.W. Finley was with a committee of Congressmen to set down to a banquet as the guests of the Merchants & Manufactures' Association at the Hotel Cherokee (Armstrong). W.W.Finley was President of the Southern Railway.
