    3. Lu, that is an incredibly generous offer! I'm not sure what I'm looking for, because I don't know what's in there. I'll keep looking and see if I can find something specific. The only thing specific that I know is in there is from Polk County, and I don't know if the Floyd County library has the Polk Films. Again, I will find out and get back to you in time. Thank you again for your kind offer. I hope this info helps your research, as well. 2. Kitty Johnson
    3. Hello -- here is what I have found to date on this Project: Dear Ms. Johnson: The Project consisted of microfilming of documents from nine northwest Georgia counties: Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Floyd, Gordon, Murray, Polk, Walker, and Whitfield. These documents covered the period 1819 - 1985 and focused on documents relating to ethnic groups, government, churches, schools, clubs, businesses, and society in general. Few photographs were filmed unless they were an integral part of a collection. 361 collections were microfilmed. If we can be of further assistance, please contact us again. Sincerely, John D. Harvey Senior Archives & Records Assistant Reference Services Georgia Archives 5800 Jonesboro Road Morrow, Georgia 30260 and.... Dear Ms. Johnson: In 1993, Dr. Ann I. Ottesen of Shorter College took various historical papers from locals in the community and microfilmed them so that a copy would be available for all researchers. We do have copies of the microfilm here at the library. It is a varied assortment of papers, some being the Day-Book and Ledgers of the Georgia School for the Deaf, Rome Music Lovers papers, and the minutes of a few churches in the area. If there is anything in particular you are interested in, we will be happy to check for you. Dawn Hampton Rome-Floyd County Library Rome, Georgia and... The index is out of print. The Archives will make a copy [about $70 @ .30/page], but libraries in the referenced counties may have them available for research. There is also one in the Archives, along with all the films, which are not available for inter-library lending. Thanks to everyone who responded to my original question, and I hope the above will be helpful to all of you. Kitty Johnson Corvallis, Oregon

    3. I guess you already saw this on the NARA website: Ottesen, Anne I., prep. A Finding Aid by County for the Northwest Georgia Document Preservation Project. Rome, GA: Shorter College, 1993. Copies may be obtained by contacting the Georgia Department of Archives and History, 330 Capitol Avenue, S.E., Atlanta, GA 30334. It also looks like they have it at the Walker County library http://216.239.37.104/search?q=cache:C-TwXUC6FlwJ:www.walker.public.lib.ga.us/ghr/from.html+Northwest+Georgia+Document+Preservation+Project&hl=en&lr=lang_en&ie=UTF-8 Linda Atkins

    3. I'm trying to find out the extent of it and exactly what it was. I found it several years ago as a reference in a magazine article about Esom Hill, GA, referencing "Brewster/Isbell Papers". Somebody suggested the Family History Center, but they don't have it. From this morning's research, I gather that Shorter College undertook the project and went to various counties microfilming all kinds of family papers. It sounds to me like a genealogist's paradise, but I CAN'T FIND IT! Does my frustration show? The title of the book I referenced is: "A finding aid by county for the Northwest Georgia Document Preservation Project" / prepared by Ann I. Ottesen; with the support of the National Historical Publications and Records Commission; with the aid of Georgia Department of Archives and History." It is described as 'a guide to the microfilm in this collection: 294/1-75'. I did find several references to it's being done by Shorter College. The Ga Archives has a copy, and I'm sure there are others around Northwest Georgia in libraries. If not, perhaps there should be! 3. Greetings! Does anybody know how I can find information about the papers microfilmed in this project? I have just spent a frustrating morning on the internet, and about all I have been able to find is that the project was done by Shorter College. There is a book by Anne I. Ottesen indexing the project at the Georgia Archives (and probably other places, but certainly not in Corvallis, Oregon!). Some individual counties referenced the Project with the papers associated with the county, but I didn't see one for either Polk or Floyd Counties. Any information appreciated! 3. Thanks Linda. This does help. They were here in 1880 and not here in 1900 or 1910 so may have moved back to Tennessee or Alabama. I am working on the theory that Lucinda Leming is the missing Haynie sister. A lot of clues point to this particularly that they were from Calhoun County, AL and in 1880 were living in Floyd Co. in the same district as John Haynie and family and his widowed mother. By the way, do you know where the Barkers district is/was. Would it be what is now South Rome, or would it be around Bush Arbor Church area where some of the Lemings are buried? Wherever John Haynie and his mother lived, they had to move their stock to higher ground because of the river overflowing but also heard of the kids playing in Myrtle Hill cemetery so that's why I wondered if it was South Rome. Thanks for your help.
