    2. Lynn Farrer
    3. Does anyone know anything about (Pleman?) P. R. WILLIAMS. During the civil war he served in Company C, First Regiment Georgia State Line. He was born July 1823 possibly in Cass County Georgia and died 15 May 1908 in Floyd County, GA. In the 1860, 1870 and 1900 census he was found in Floyd County, Georgia. Have not found him in the 1850 or 1880 census. Married his 1st wife was Amanda Wade probably before 1847 and she was born abt 1825 in Greene Co, GA and she died on 15 Sep 1875 in Floyd Co GA. They had one child Frances Annie Elizabeth b. 13 Oct 1847 in Floyd Co GA. Married his 2nd wife Mary Jane Brewer on 12 Dec 1876 in Floyd County, GA. Mary Jane was born Jun 1856 and may have died Dec 1932. They had five children, Walter Loveless b. 26 Sep 1876, Martha "Mattie" b. Oct 1879, Jack B. b. 20 Nov 1881, Laura b. Aug 1884, and Mary Lee b. Oct 1891. She was found in the Rome, Floyd County GA census 1910-1930. Thanks for any help. Lynn Farrer mlFarrer@swbell.net

    2. Was the person white or black. I know of a cemetery with both blacks and white buried in it in Cave Spring. There has been no inventory done on it as of now, but I have lots of relatives buried there and have been there many times. What is the name of the person? I may be able to ask around of some of the people living there to see of they know anything. The cemetery is Padlock Cemetery. 2. Sharon, sorry I can't be of any help. I don't have John in that time frame but have forwarded your last email to a cousin who descends from the Bagwell - Langley line and can trace back to the 18th Century. Good luck, Rosebird

    3. RB My great-grandparents are John Bagwell b-1818 SC d-1898 married Nancy Jane Isham b-1829 GA d-1862 GA. They had 12 children. I'm trying to find out if John has siblings or parents that lived in Floyd Co, GA also. Any Bagwell in that area should be related. Just got off the phone with a very nice lady from Murphy & Harpst Center in Cedartown. A few records still exists, but very limited. A basement where records were kept was flooded and the government did not require as much paper work in the early years. The care of the children was more important than the paper work. Records from the Sunshine Cottage are lost, but if the child was at Ethel Harpst Home or Sarah D. Murphy Home, there might be a record. The advice I was given was for the person to call the center at 770-748-1500 or to write: Murphy & Harpst Center 740 Fletcher Street Cedartown, GA 30125 They will check their limited records and let you know what is available. I only asked about the older records as much of the new records are closed. Hope this helps. Doris Robbins Polk County, GA Volunteer

    1. [GAFLOYD] Shropshire's
    2. Looking for info on African-American Shropsire's that possibly moved to Rome after the civil war. Particularly Matilda and Margaret who were formerly on the plantation of Wesley Shropshire of Chattooga County. They had a brother named Seab (Seaborn, Sebron) who lived in Cave Spring. I know that Matilda died in Rome area but can't locate death info. Any help with this family would be greatly appreciated . Dorothy Grigsby

    2. Hi Doris; that was Ethel Harpst. I tried to get my mother's records and/or her siblings but all I could obtain was an admission card for my mother and her 3 siblings. They didn't keep good records till about 1950. BUT Harpst Home was very nice and did allow I and my sister to come and look at boxes full of pictures but we have no pictures of my mother or her siblings so we could have looked rt at our mother and did not know it. I did, however, manage to obtain a few older pictures from the Cedartown Library by going through the Cedartown Standard films. I mainly look at May and June of each year when the schools had a lot of articles because of graduations etc. My mother was a Piano student so I found some pictures of her recitals given by Cedartown High and my mother was in a reunion of the Harpst Home in 1941. I have a very large picture of this reunion of Harpst Home I will be sending for your site. take care Jackie

Harpst Home merged with Sarah D. Murphy Home a few years back and is still in operation in Cedartown. It is now the Murphy Harpst Children's Center. It's address is 740 Fletcher Street, Cedartown, GA 30125. Phone number is 770-748-1500. Will be glad to call tomorrow and ask if they have any of the older records and what would need to be done to access them. Will post the answer to the list. Doris

    2. Hi again, I wrote your address n name down and will get the info together and out this week. I have to hunt for some of it because I took it out of my 'regular' paper files when I found they were not my family. I am not worried abt the cost of copies; I have a printer at home. I really thought I had found the right one because Henry had a daughter Carrie b: 1896 and my grandmother was Carrie Bell Johnson and she had put down 1892 on one document and 1892 on another. On one document she stated she was born in Crest GA, which is in Upson CO.; On another she stated she was b: in Thomasville; there is a Thomasville in deep south GA in Thomas CO. but here is also a small town called Thomasville which is apart of Atlanta. My grandmother was found and m: in AL. so this has been very hard! In 1928 my mother was placed in Sunshine Cottage, a girl's orphanage that later merged with Harpst Home in Cedartown GA just south of Rome. This fact also lead me to believe I had the right family of Henry Johnson just north of Rome. I do think I found a family in AL that may have been the right one on the 1900 census but the father's name was William and mother's Harriet; I now cannot find that family and they did have a Carrie Bell. Carrie wrote on her SS Aplication that her parents were Henry and Hassie Johnson so that William and Harriet could well be the right one. Well sorry did not mean to go on. I now have pieced my grandmother's life together after she m: my grandfather, Foster Harris, in St Clair CO. Al; which was no easy feat as she m: four times and had 10 children and moved around between Al, GA, TN and even AK constantly!!! But it has seemed to be impossible to piece together her childhood! Will let you go and will gather all the info I have on the Alexander/Henry Johnson family I have. Happy Hunting, Jackie
