Using the 1850-1900 census records, birthdate ranges from 1816 to 1824. Floyd Co. cemetery survey provided birth and death dates used at this time. Death location is based on residence of Bartow Co. in 1900 census, two years before death. Susannah Edwards, age 50, is in the household in 1850 Floyd Co., GA census. This researcher believes she is Mark's mother. Cornell, Genealogical Publishing Co., Baltimore, 2000 pg. 27 42nd Senatorial Dist. (856th Militia Dist.) Mark Edwards, age 48 yrs. 6 months, farmer Previous researchers of this man believe him to be Mark A. Edwards who served in the 16th GA Inf. and 22nd GA Heavy Artillery (CSA). These units were out of Jackson Co., GA. After examining the GA CSA records, GA CSA pension records and the Jackson Co. census records, this researcher has determined Mark A. Edwards is the son of Gideon Edwards of Jackson Co., GA. Mark M. Edwards was a private in the 101st.Regt. GA Militia, 856 Dist., Bartow Co., GA. He enlisted 3-5-1862. Sarah A. Edwards Using the 1850-1880 census records, birthdate ranges from 1822 to1827. Floyd Co. cemetery survey provided birth and death dates used at this time. Death location is based on Bartow Co. residence during 1850-1880 census span. Sarah A. Edwards' maiden name is currently unknown because no marriage record for Mark and Sarah Edwards has been located at this time. Per family lore provided by Mike Edwards (Miami, FL), the marriage probably took place in SC. Sarah is supposed to have damaged her feet walking the trails from SC to GA. 3. Glen - I've had good luck getting Cedartown death certificates from the Georgia DHR, Public Health Division. You can go on-line and get a form to fill out. They're slow, but they get there. I don't know if you are aware that many records were lost when the Polk County Courthouse burned -- I can't remember the year, but it was a long time ago (the new [now old!] one was built when I was a kid in the 50's. I have managed to get marriage certificates from them, however. If you have any trouble finding these let me know and I will dig out more information on contacts -- working off the top of my head here. Kitty Johnson

    3. Would someone be willing to do an 1860 census and/or confederate soldiers lookup? On the census, I'm trying to find a HOOD family, probably in the Chulio District, Rome PO, who would have had a son, possibly named James, possibly living near the Michum Perry family, old enough to go into the war. Finding him on both the census and a confederate death index would be perfect, of course. I'm on a Mac, which genealogy.com doesn't support, so I can't subscribe. Any help would be appreciated -- also anybody who has information of any kind on the Hood families in that area at that time. Kitty

    1. [GAFLOYD] Cuzzort/ Davis?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Cosart, Cosatt, Corsert, Cuzzort, Cozort, Davis? Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.families.aol.com/mbexec/msg/4300/Dc.2ADI/268 Message Board Post: Ancestor: William Cuzzort age 28, living in Floyd County, "Livingston", GA 1860 (census); listed as Cosatt with wife: Sady (Sarah Jane Self, married Floyd Co. 1854) age 18; and children James 5; Joseph 3; and sister-in-law: Hannah Self 16 Also in Floyd County, "Livingston" is Lucy Cosart, age 49; her daughters: Mary 29; Elizabeth 24; Nancy 19; Lucinda 16. And Columbus Corsert 22; wife: Louisa (Penny) 18. Both, William and Columbus, served in the Civil War. William was in Co. H, 6th GA Cavalry, and Columbus was in Co. D, Infantry Battalion, Smith's Legion, Georgia Volunteers, was transferred to Co. H, then to Co. F 65th GA Infantry. Most of William's line is still in the Floyd/Polk County, GA area, and some of Columbus' line is in Dekalb Co., AL. Joseph, the son of William, has the name of Lucy Davis on his death certificate as his mother. I believe that the Lucy on his death certificate is the Lucy listed above as Cosart. I believe that she is the mother of William and Columbus, but cannot say for sure. She may have been born Davis and (obviously) married a Cosart. I am almost certain that Joseph's mother was Sarah Jane Self. These three appear again in the "Livingston"area in 1870, they are listed as Cuzzort, Columbus; Cozort, Wm. T.; and Cuzzort, Lucy. Lucy is not listed in 1880, but Columbus and William are. Both are listed as Cuzzort at that time and still in the "Livingston" area. In 1900, William is listed in Polk Co., GA. with his wife: Lucy E (Ruth Esther Hampton). He married Ruth in Floyd County, GA in 1883. The 1900 census has her as "Lucy E," but also has the two married 18 years. "Lucy's" information perfectly matches that of Ruth Hampton. There was a mix-up in her name as it was given to the census taker. She could have been called by a nickname, as she is a widow in the 1910 census, but her name is listed as Pussie Cuzzort. I have more information on Columbus and William, but am interested in Lucy at this point. Does anyone have any information on the LUCY listed here as the widow, living with her daughters? What Cuzzort/Cosart/etc. did she marry? Census suggests that she was born in North Carolina. Please, feel free to E-mail me at Buttercup32472@aol.com

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/Dc.2ADI/267.2 Message Board Post: Under "Rome City Government" in the telephone book there is a listing for "Cemetery Department - Main Office". Myrtle Hill Cemetery is a city owned cemetery. The people in this office (which is at another city cemetery) were very helpful to me when I personally stopped by there looking for grave locations at Myrtle Hill. The address is 725 Kingston Ave., Rome, GA., 30172. Telephone number is 706-236-4534
