    1. [GAFAYETT] Brown/Suddeth in Fayette Co.,GA
    2. Robert Watson Brown married Theresa (Tressy) Suddeth on 08 April, 1849 in Fayette County. I have never found them in the 1850 census, but they are in the 1860 census for Fayette Co., GA. By 1870, they have moved to Talladega Co., AL. Their children were: James Martin( b. 1852), John Franklin, Sarah Elizabeth, Mary Pamelia, Robert Floyd, and Lucy Jane. Looking for parents and/or siblings for Robert Watson Brown and Theresa Suddeth. Thank you for any help. Norma Robinson Hattiesburg, MS **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? 3. Norma, I am working on a transcription of the 1850 Fayette County GA Census. I can tell you that it has mistakes as I believe other counties in GA do for 1850. In looking at the images for Fayette, it appears that at least part of the 1850 was "rewritten" and apparently the person doing it made errors. For instance, I found one family twice with different people in the HH in each entry. I have a Ward family that the only person enumerated is the Father and there should have been a wife and several children - the wife and children have not been located anywhere else for 1850 but we know they were alive. My John McLean (3rd Great Grandfather) was enumerated in 1850 in Fayette County, GA but he died before the date that is shown on the sheet he is listed on......so, I can only assume that the enumeration was done earlier in the year before he died and then recopied at a later date when it was completed. I have several proofs that he was not alive on that date. Depending on the area they were found in 1860 in Fayette, you might also want to check the surrounding counties in 1850. Henry County's is online - not sure about Coweta but I think it may be. It also depends on the index you are using to search the census with. I have an ancestor in Pennsylvania that I had tried everywhere to find in the 1870 census with no luck, until I found an 1870 Pennsylvania Census Index in book form in a library and voila .........there she was! So, you have to take into account that the indexes are transcriptions and the person doing it may not have known family names of an area and lost alot in translation. I feel comfortable transcribing census records for Fayette County as I know so many of the names but it doesn't mean I don't sometimes make mistakes. Have you tried the new Census transcriptions being put online by LDS? I have worked on some of those as a volunteer and they are checked by a second person almost immediately and I have found them to be pretty accurate. I'll keep an eye out for you in Fayette while I am working on it. There is a link to the FamilySearch.org census records on the Fayette County Census page found here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gafayett/census/census.htm I find it most useful to go to the geographic area (use the map on that LDS page) and then pick the resource I want to search rather than doing that first broad search engine that is on their first page.
