Dunn Dies at Her Home Near Woolsey From Wounds Inflicted, It Is Alleged, By Ed Padgett. Beaten With Ball Bat Thursday Afternoon Her Death Occurred Saturday Noon and Man Charged With Killing In Rushed to Atlanta Jail for Safe Keeping. Brooks, Ga., July 2. - Mrs. L. A. Dunn died at her home near Woolsey Saturday at noon from wounds inflicted, it is alleged, by Ed Padgett in a difficulty which occurred Thursday afternoon. Padgett was a farm hand on Dunn plantation, and according to the best information obtainable, had a dispute with one of the Dunn boys over a plow, which, it is alleged, he went to the field and took from the boys, later going to the house where Mrs. Dunn was engaged in her household duties and attacking her with a baseball bat. Mrs. Wilbur Dunn was present and endeavored to prevent the difficulty, but could not do so. Excitement ran high in Fayette county Saturday and Saturday night, and Padgett was carried from the Fayetteville jail to the Atlanta jail to prevent any trouble that might arise. The remains of Mrs. Dunn were laid to rest at White Water cemetery Sunday afternoon, the obsequies being conducted by J.F. Norton, of Griffin. As the body lay in state at the church it was viewed by some 800 people, who attended the funeral services as a last respect to the memory of the deceased.
