But, Great Grandmother Smith was suppose to have sat on a barrell of cornmeal and covered it with her long skirt. The soldiers did not askj her to move and her family had cornmeal to make bread. Another story I heard when I was young was Great Grandfather Smith came home from the Civil War and started farming. But, he decided his corn crop was worth more if he used part of it to make moonshine whiskey rather making cornmeal. These stories were told to me by my Aunt Ruby Riggins-Lancaster. She was the neice of Uncle Brew. It was suppose to be a story in Uncle Brew's daughter's book. I do not remember this daughter's name. But, she was from California and she came to visit the family here in Hughes Springs, Texas on several occasions. I wish I had a copy of this book.
