He was a maternal 3x's great-grandfather. My lineage is, ? Levi Speights and ? ?; James Gerry Speights and 1st wife Melvinie/Viney Mitchell(His 2nd wife was Martha Cook); William Rufus Speights and 1st wife Nancy Melissa Luck (2nd wife was Mattie Wood); then thru marriages of Speights to Shurbutt, Shurbutt to Englett, to Englett to Anderegg. James G. Speights was born ? 9th of August, 1820's. Died on the 28th of feb., 1894. Married Viney Mitchell in Fayette Co., GA on the 28th of Dec.,1842. 2nd marriage to Martha Cook in Campbell Co.,GA on the 13th of Oct.,1872. Children's names of 1st marriage: Daniel; John W.; Robert Thomas or Thomas Robert; Silas F.; William Rufus; Mary; and Nathan J.. Are the ones I know of. No children from 2nd marriage. Martha had children from previous marriage. James G. Speights was a farmer and preacher. He was ordained in June of 1876 by the Jonesboro Baptist Asso. He preached at Flat Rock Baptist Church (Atlanta Airport area. Church building was inside of airport fenced area. Cemetery is on outside of fenced area. His 2nd wife is buried here and he might be in unmarked spot next to her marker.). Then went to an unknown church in Spalding Co., near Griffin, that was a member of the Flint River Association. This church would pay him a salary. Then on the 4th Sunday of Sept.,1880 at the Robinson's School House near Fayetteville, GA. James and several other Reverends gathered to organize a church for that area. James was elected to be the 1st Pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church. He was here from Oct.1880 to 1893. Some of his children served also at New Hope in various area's of the church. Later sons and grandsons were active in the Salvation Army org.. James died on the 28th of Feb., 1894.
