    1. Re: GAFAYETT-D Digest V99 #34
    2. Hi Steven, I do not know anything about Hopeful P B Church. Have walked the cemetery several times. However, I do know something about New Hope Cemetery and church. My Mother, Estelle Holt McCleskey, was born/raised on New Hope Rd and attended New Hope Baptist Church until she moved to Atlanta to find work in 1924. We would go there for Homecoming and all-day singing when I was a child. My great grand parents James H and Barbary Cleveland Jackson were among the first buried in the cemetery. John Thomas and Mary Jackson Holt (my grandparents) are buried there with many of their brothers and sisters. I will be happy to help you if I can. If you live in the Atlanta area I can give you a name for someone in Fayetteville who is elderly but very interested in Fayette Co and knows lots about old time New Hope and Fayette Co. Please reply to [email protected] Judy McCleskey Webb, Iowa Park, TX

    1. Re: M L Brown Sr-Parents?
    2. I don't have any BROWNs in my data, but I do have some McEacherns, including at least one Elizabeth. One of the volunteers at the Fayette County Historical Society/Margaret Mitchell Museum is a McEachern descendant (they pronounce it Mah Kerin, she said to me). Four McE brothers served in Co I, 10th Ga Vol Inf; a younger brother served in another rgmnt. Three of their photos are printed in John Lynch's book 'The Dorman-Marshbourne Letters....'. An older brother died before the WBTS, his widow later married my widowed GG-Grandpa. Michael Stone [email protected]

    1. M L Brown Sr-Parents?
    2. Mark Brown
    3. Hello, my name is Mark L Brown. I am the son of James B. "Nook" Brown, grandson of Marcus L "Tit" Brown Jr m Elizabeth McEachern. In my geneology research I have put together this line back to my great grandfather Marcus L Sr. After that I draw a blank. I have fairly extensive info on the Speer family also, my relation being to M L Brown Sr's wife, Sallie F Speer, daughter of James J. Speer. I have also been told a couple of old family tales that I need verification on. Tale #1: In 1920, Willie Brown, son of Marcus L Brown Sr, ran a store in Aberdeene. Apparently, there was an argument between he and a Stinchcomb, resulting in both dying from gunshot wounds. Does anyone have any recollection of this event so as to enlighten me on the facts? Willie is buried in the Ebenezer Methodist Church cemetery. I have been told it was because of 1) Jealousy of the store's business and location 2) telling revenuers about a still 3) that it was a "sensitive" issue. Tale #2: In the late 20's or early 30's in the Shakerag area, Marcus L Brown Sr's brother Clint was killed in a shootout and subsequent fire. Anyone have any info on this one? I have a lot of pictures that I am in the process of scanning. I'll be posting some of these off and on if possible. There are individuals I cannot verify and would like any help anyone can provide.

    1. POSEY-CHRISTIAN, GA 1800s
    2. I have just found out that a Sarah H. POSEY, daughter of Thomas POSEY and Mary HODGKINS, may be my ancestor. She supposedly married William B. CHRISTIAN and lived in Elbert Co. GA until about 1827. Then they moved to Newton Co. GA until late 1830, then they moved to Fayette Co. GA. I descend from their possible daugher, Lucinda Jane CHRISTIAN. Lucinda and her twin sister Eliza Jane were born on 2 Nov 1819. Lucinda married Nathaniel SHELLNUT in Fayette Co. GA in 1829 and Eliza married Barney WESTBROOK in Fayette Co. GA in 1837. Nathaniel and Lucinda settled in Carroll Co. GA, where Nathaniel founded the town of Bowdon. Any relatives out there? Any additions or corrections to this info? Vickie Elam White

    1. FAYETTE COUNTY~ Lloyd/Loyd Family
    2. Hello, I descend from James and Mary Parsons Lloyd of Fayette County. I know they were married in Fayette County on March 5, 1850. The family is listed in the 1860 Fayette County Census on page 80 and on the 1870 Fayette County Census on page 154. I have the family Bible of their son, Benjamin Howard & Mary Elizabeth Yarbrough Lloyd that states James Lloyd died in 1897 and Mary Parsons Lloyd died in 1903. Can you tell me if they are found in the Fayette County Cemetery or Burial records? Also, I remember seeing a James Lloyd listed as an officer in the roster of Fayette County in the Civil War, but I can't seem to find my notes on that. I am trying to determine if this is the same James Lloyd as listed above. I would appreciate any information you can give me about the man listed. Please pass my name along to any other person researching this Lloyd family in Fayette County. THANKS! Yvette Taylor Stewart
