My husband's grandmother was Lona. His mother was her youngest daughter Dorothy aka Pat/ Patricia. I was lucky enough to marry Brian while both Herma and Lona were still living. At Lona's 85th birthday, your grandmother played the piano. Sadly, I do not remember her but my husband does. We have a Civil War museum close by us and it has all kinds of information about the Civil War. I am not sure if I can find any information on William but I will check it out. We know so little about Octavia and her family that it would be really great to be able to have any information on them. When and where did Minton and Octavia get married? We would like any information that you can help us with. We would love to see the pictures that you have! Is there any way that you could perhaps e-mail them to us? J-Peg format works best. If you can't do it that way, We would be more than willing to send you the money to have them copied at a copy shop. When I worked at the historical society I use to take old photos to our local printing office and they did an awesome job for not too much money. I really look forward to hearing from you and am excited to have someone to work with to uncover more of the Smith/ Buck heritage. I will get to work on William and see if I can uncover any information on him! Thank you so much for your reply! The family came to Fayette early after the Treaty of Indian Springs from Marlboro County, SC. I have a sizeable database, and there has been a reunion in Inman, Fayette County, GA. The Stubbs family is included in Ancestry.com in my OVERSTREET WORKING TREE. Since my own personal file has become so large and has massive information in notes, I now have made my tree private and will share with individuals who have a particular need to know. In other words, let me know and I will be glad to share. sjoverstreet@bellsouth.net. Just as an aside, some individuals you have mentioned are in the Inman community, and some of their information will be found online under Inman United Methodist Church history, with the church formerly known as Liberty Chappel in Fayette County, GA. My own lines runes through Martha Stubbs who married Elisha Hill and moved to Fayette County GA in about 1827. Do an engine serch with these names because I've already entered lots of information on the Internet over the past decade. As another aside, I just had my own supplementals approved with the Daughters of the American Revolution for STUBBS family ancestors William Stubbs (Sr) and his father John Stubbs (Sr) of Marlboro District SC. They were both documented Patriots of the American Revolution. It takes a good deal of documentation to trace a line that DAR will approve. I sure would be glad to share those records because I think we have a proud heritage. I would be glad to share massive information if you would write to my e-mail address so that I can reply with attachments. He was born 20 September 1860 in Fayetteville, Fayette County Georgia. His father was William Morgan Smith Jr.; who was also born in Fayetteville. W.M.Smith Jr. married Priscilla Allum about 1857. Priscilla was born in Pollensville, Henry County Georgia; unknown date. William Morgan Smith Sr. was born about 1808; place of birth unknown. He was married to Elizabeth Post. They were married in Fayetteville. We have been trying to fill in the gaps for years. Minton had a daughter named Lona. She married Melvin Pingree. Melvin passed away from a ruptured appendix and Lona then married his brother, Sherman. Lona and Melvin had one daughter, Mildred and Lona and Sherman had one daughter Dorothy Patricia. My husband is the son of Dorothy AKA Pat. Pat did most of the research for us on this family line. She went to Georgia a number of years ago to see if she could find more information. Minton had told her that he remembered the Union Soldiers coming through during the Civil War and burning their home down. His mother had stuffed some important belongings up into the chimney in order to keep them safe. After the soldiers left and the fire had gone cold she returned to claim those items. I have not made it all the way through my mother-in-laws book so I am not sure if she ever found out what those items were. We are still looking for birth and death dates as well as siblings for Wm. Morgan Smith Sr. and Jr. and for Minton, Priscilla and Elizabeth. Do either of you have this information? My husband is going to be very excited to know that we have found family! I too have a William Bennett b. 1739 (LDS version) or (1744 Moody Miles version) of the Accomack/ Northampton area of Virginia. Moody Miles, a well known genealogist of the Eastern Shore, recently completed a 260 page document using all the books in his library of the Bennetts on the Eastern Shore. There is an earlier Bartholomew Bennett. I've done many searches and that name is truly unusual. I've also located another William Bennett born around that time period in the Elizabeth City Will book born to a John Bennett. Would love to share.
