I have a copy of that book. They actually went to Fayette, Ga. and found the actual location where William Morgan Smith, 1837-1891, lived. My dad was born in 1877 and told me he was 14 when his dad died so that is how I came up with 1891 for his death. Priscilla always lived with my dad until she died around 1906. I would like to have a picture of her if anyone has one. She is buried in Sandhill Cemetery in Simms, Texas but has no head stone but I do know whe is buried there. Also, several Smith's moved to East Texas from Fayette, Ga. They were related to my dat but I can't fill in the blanks. I am only guessing but I think that William Morgan Smith, 1837-1891, must have had some brothers who came to East Texas before he did but I don't know for sure and can't put the pieces together. Maybe someone could help me. I would like to know more about, William Morgan Smith 1837-1891 as to who his parent! s were and his siblings. He went blind when he was about 90. He would get on a bus each summer and ride the bus to California and spend a month with each of his daughters. I don't know how he did it being blind but he did. He did this several years in a row. He could feel of money and tell you what bill it was. He would get his check and go to the bank and they would fix his money just like he wanted. When the bus would stop, people would help him and make sure he got on the right bus. He lived with my parents for awhile when I was small and he was like a father to me. I think--think--that I have pulled all the information on both of those sites. I guess I should have been more clear on what I hope to find. What/who I am looking for are people or descendants currently researching that line. I've followed the line down to the 1940 census and the death records online. Are you a part of the family? Do you know who Horatio Turpin's father/mother was? Thanks again! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I found both Wyatt Chandler and Wm P. Chandler on the 1860 census in Fayette, SC along with my relative Harriet Smallwood. Harriet was born in 1820 in South Carolina. Her daughter's death certificate lists her as Harriet Chandler. Is it possible that Harriet is a sister, after all she is list on the same census sheet and at this point she is a widow? It would make sense that she would want to be living near family. I am hoping this is possible since I have hit the proverbial brick wall with her. But, Great Grandmother Smith was suppose to have sat on a barrell of cornmeal and covered it with her long skirt. The soldiers did not askj her to move and her family had cornmeal to make bread. Another story I heard when I was young was Great Grandfather Smith came home from the Civil War and started farming. But, he decided his corn crop was worth more if he used part of it to make moonshine whiskey rather making cornmeal. These stories were told to me by my Aunt Ruby Riggins-Lancaster. She was the neice of Uncle Brew. It was suppose to be a story in Uncle Brew's daughter's book. I do not remember this daughter's name. But, she was from California and she came to visit the family here in Hughes Springs, Texas on several occasions. I wish I had a copy of this book. No father's name shown on death certificate, mother listed as Elisa. William died 1930 in Dubach LA. By 1880 census of Henry County GA, his mother, Elisa, b ~1837, GA, was living with William, as a widow. Family inputs indicate his father, unknown McMullen, could have died in Civil War.
