He asked me to contact the people researching the Head Family in this county. He does not have a computer. Here is what I have. John C. Head came to Washington County, Mississippi from Griffin, Georgia, after the War Between the States as a manager of Greenway plantation. IN the spring of 1878 he married Mamie A. Buckner of the Huntington area of Bolivar Co., Mississippi, at her residence. This quote accompained therir wedding announcement. "NO fate can cheat the loving pair/As long as life's paththey tread/For whether times are good or bad/They will always be Head. The heads moved to Doddsville where he had two cotton gins and a large plantation. Their children were Mrs. M. R. Williams, Mrs. J. M. Maury, and John Columbus Head, Jr., O. C. Head, and G. S. Head. Her mother was MRs. P. M. Chambers of Little Rock, Arkansas, Her brother was E. O. Chambers also of Little Rock. MRs. John C. Head died July 21 1910 I have a note that John C. Head was born 1846 and died 1928. He served as a private in Co. I 13th Georgia Infantr. He is buried in the Greenville Cemetery in Greenville, Mississippi. I am a local historian and my friend is M. R. Williams Jr. Whose grandmother was Mamie Buckner. He is in his 70's and would like to hear from somone with information about his family. I have also corresponded with a Matthew Maury who writes me that "My great grandmother, Clara Lee Head, born Jan. 27, 1884 in Grenville, Mississippi was the daughter of John Champion Head. John Champion was married to Eileen Buckner. Clara Head married James M. Maury, Sr." If any one would like to correspond about this family or has information to share please email me at nowell@tecinfo.com. Thank you. 1. [GAFAYETT] New Items on Fayette GAGenWeb
    2. Linda Blum-Barton
    3. Hi everyone, I just wanted to let you know that we have been given some wonderful information for the Fayette County GAGenWeb site. Thanks to Sara Jane Overstreet for donating the Inman Church Records, Cemetery Survey, 1863 Joe Brown Census for Fayette and numerous family biographies. Please visit the site and enjoy this new wealth of information she has shared with us. I have updated all of the links on the site going to The USGW Archives Project that has changed servers. If you keep bookmarks on your computer to those pages or the search engine, please visit the updated county site to get the new links. Sara also shared information about the 2008 Stubbs Reunion and it's posted on the website. I have more biographies to add, some new family group sheets shared on the Brown family, a pension application for David Andress (Andrews) for the Revolutionary War. I am sure there are other things I am forgetting at the moment but you've been keeping me busy!! I'll keep you posted as I continue to add these great new items on the site. I'm sure that by now you have been able to prove that Zadock Blalock and Margaret Ann Lewis were in fact parents to James Marion Blalock. Zadock Blalock is my great-great-great grandfather and I have a complete history on the family that I would be more than glad to share with you if you are interested. I grew up a short distance from the old Zadock Blalock home place. Of course it burned down years ago but the family cemetery is still there and well kept. 1. [GAFAYETT] Mahala Millsaps Thompson
    2. According to "The History of the Millsaps," by Dr. Luther Wayne Capooth, the Millsaps were in Fayette County early enough. Mahala A. Millsaps was the daughter of Eldridge Millsaps, who was on a militia list in Walton County in 1822 and then bought one of the first lots sold in Fayetteville, Fayette County, Ga where he died in 1832. Reuben Millsaps, probably his uncle who moved to Fayette abt. 1823, and Stephen Smith were appointed guardians of his children: William J., Mahala, Olly T, and Pinkney. Mahala was buried in the Cox Family Cemetery in Fayette Co. (p.49), probably the family cemetery mentioned in the post about her. Her husband, Lewis T. Thompson, was said to be the grandson of Samuel Thompson whose will was probated in Fayette County 9 October 1845. Samuel's granddaughter Paulina m. Larkin Millsaps and grandson James Samuel Thompson m. Olivia Jane Millsap (sic). Some researchers believe that Samuel's father James Thompson probably moved with the Millsaps and Fullers from Old Pendleton District to Jackson County. GA. Any information documenting this move?

She was born May 8th, 1824, in this county, where she has ever since lived. She was the mother of ten children, two boys and eight girls. Mrs. Thompson was Miss Mahala Millsapps and was married to Lewis T. Thompson when quite young. He preceeded her to the great beyond several years ago. She joined the Methodist church in early life and since then she has been a consecrated Christian, always ready to do anything for the cause of her Lord. There is little incident in her life that will not be out of place to mention here. She is said to have been the first white baby born in Fayette County. When her parents moved here all this country was inhabited by Indians, and her father was one of the first pioneers of Fayette County." Her death was mentioned again in the Oak Grove Column of the same newspaper as follows "Mrs. Lewis Thompson, whose serious illness we mentioned last week, passed peacefully away, though suddenly, last Monday afternoon. Mrs. Thompson was born in this county May 24, 1824 (please note different date from previous article) and died at her home here August 25th, 1902. By reason of strength and through the grace of our Heavenly Father, she almost reached four score years. She was one of the oldest members of Ebenezer church, being present at its organization. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. John Spier, in a very impressive manner.....Mrs. Thompson was the mother of ten children - eight girls and two boys. They are: Mr. W.E.
