Paul, You have to choose a surname first. If you choose Bailey, it will take you to the first page of B and the earliest deeds made by people whose names began with B. It may be 1821 or later. But they were the first deeds made by people with names starting with "B." My point was that whatever surname you chose, the selections started with the earliest deeds and progressed to the more current ones. When I said they were chronological rather than alphabetical, I meant that each letter of the alphabet's section started with the earliest deeds and the names were not alphabetical ... maybe Betts then Bailey then Brown then back to Bailey, etc. Does that make any sense? By the way, I haven't been able to get to the site all day. I keep getting an error ... no matter which browser I use. I think maybe it has been busy? :-) Judy K ************** >From Wall Street to Main Street and everywhere in between, stay up-to-date with the latest news. (http://aol.com?ncid=emlcntaolcom00000023)

Michelle, Look on the left where you see all those options you mentioned. There's a solid box with a list. Toward the bottom is "name search." Judy ************** A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. Jackie, It seems that those with PCs can view the actual documents. These online records start at 1821, when the county was formed. I also had called the clerk (she was the one who told me about the online documents) and she told me the records there at the Superior Court office (real esate division) were also earl ones (from the beginning). If I can't get my computer to read the actual documents, then I'll have to make a trip to Fayetteville. If I do, I'll let you know if I found the early records. I was looking for my Norrises who were there from about 1855 to about 1870. Judy K in Newnan ************** A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Judy, Thanks for letting us know about this!! I have been checking occassionally because I knew some counties were going online and alot of South Carolina is online. My fingers are crossed that the documents will be viewable, if not now, then in the near future - the ones in SC are. I will check on my PC and see if I can view the actual documents and let you know. Linda B. Hello to all, I went to the Clerk's office to view land documents. I found they start in 1899. My family was there in the 1840's - 1860's. Are those documents displayed elsewhere. I can't seem to find anything but more recent deeds on this site, even going through the steps mentioned. Even looking at the list on the Clerk's index search on the main page after you accept the disclaimer, the oldest thing listed there is "Online Index Books" from 01/01/1963 to 12/31/1977 . Am I looking in the wrong place? Michelle >> The original, hand-written grantor-grantee index to deeds is online at >> the >> Fayette County Superior Court Clerk's site (www.fayetteclerk.com). The original, hand-written grantor-grantee index to deeds is online at the Fayette County Superior Court Clerk's site (www.fayetteclerk.com). Click on "Property Index Search" on the left, then accept the disclaimer, and click on "Name Search," again on the left. That will take you to the search page where you can type in a surname. You will be taken to the first page for the initial letter. Since the deeds are in chronological order (they start with 1821 and go through 1899) and not alphabetical, you will have to scroll through all the deeds (but that's fun too). There is a slot at the top to type in Book and Page number and "View Document" but it always told me the numbers were invalid. The index does not give the land lot and district but it does give the names of the parties, the book and page number, and the date of instrument and date recorded. If anyone can get a result with "View Document" please let me know. It may be my crazy Mac. Am I the only one who didn't know about this site? Surely not. I have been scrolling and enjoying myself for days. :-) What is most interesting is seeing who the very first land dealers were. I did not have notepaper with me but I believe it read "Mary, consort of William M Mcbride". Her death date was the early 1800's. It mentions that she had 10 children, 4 of whom died in infancy and were buried in the same gated area as Mary. There were no other markers and the area within the fence was very overgrown with weeds. Just next to the fence was the headstone of Mrs Jane Mcbride McIntosh. Does anybody know the history here? It did mention that Mary was married and that she died at age 36. I could find no other McBrides in the area but found a McBride Cemetery listed on Google in Fayetteville. Were these women part of that family? And why weren't they buried with the others? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
