I received an email from Marvin Trawick in England who is looking for his Thomas ancestors in Fayette County. He had read one of my articles in The Citizen and wanted to know if I had researched his family (I had not). Since my weekly articles have been discontinued, I suggested that Marvin leave messages at Rootsweb and Genforum, and subscribe to this list. I told him I would give him a jump start by posting to the list for him. If you have any info, please reply to Marvin at trawickbim@aol.com. Posting to the list also might be helpful to others. Here is the info on his family from his email to me: >>> I was wondering if you have done any research on Will Harp Thomas born 1 Jul 1871 and Minnie Bell Chapman, born 22 Oct 1879? Will and Minnie married 13 Oct 1899 in Fayette County. They lived in Fayette County and had a large family I.e.: Wilbur Garnett, Jep, Fred, Ida Bell, Effie, Lucile, James R. Ernest, and Eva that I know of. Will?s father I believe was Richard Thomas mother was Louise Quick, and Minnie Bells father was James Thomas Chapman and mother was Addelia Adams. It is unclear to me who Will?s grandparents are, but I think Charles and Sara Thomas might be. My name is Marvin Trawick and Wilbur Thomas and Margie Lucile Creamer were my grandparents on mothers side. I saw your article in the Citizen Paper and since I live in Brandon, Suffolk, England thought you may have some info that you might be willing to share. There is some stories about the Thomas that suggest that Will and Minnie may have had several other children which I would really like to know of. Any info would be appreciated. If you know of any published Thomas history in Fayette County I might research, it would be helpful. Thank you for your time and any info you might pass along. Marvin Trawick trawickbim@aol.com <<< Thanks to anyone for helping out. Judy Kilgore Newnan, GA

Linda, Thanks so much. I went to the USGenweb Spaldng site, but they didn't have this cemetery listed. I'm delighted to find that you have a site on Ancestry-Rootsweb.com, which somehow had escaped my knowing. I immediately found one cousin on the New Salem Find-a-grave site, and plan to check out the other Reeves buried there as well to see if we're related. Regretfully, none of my direct ancestral line seem to be buried there, though, assuming the inventory of marked graves is complete. Reeves Nov 15, 1838-Apr 1, 1928. I can tell you the names of the other Reeves listed but again, they don't match the ones you were looking for. Many of the cemetery sites listed unmarked graves which might be a possibility. There are a couple of gravesites I've come across recently that I'm not sure are recorded and I'm hoping to get to them soon and will definitely check Reeves there for you. I'll try to check Spalding as best I can soon also. Just wanted you to know I haven't given up. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Paul, Henry County was called "the mother of counties." Most of the following information comes from "Henry County Georgia, The Mother of Counties", by B essie Thrasher Rainer, and private ly printed by Dr. Robert A. Ranier in 1971 and1989. In December 14, 1821, the fourth, fifth, thirteenth, fourteenth and seventeenth districts of Henry County were detached from Henry and added to Fayette. In 1851-2, a part of Henry was added to Spalding and in 1858, Clayton Co. was formed from Henry County. The resident's home would have remained in the same locstion , but the boundaries of the county they lived in might b e different. The following are j ust a few examples of Reeves surname in Henry County (and there were some in Clayton County and Spalding.) In January 1828, a Tyre Reeves was one of 12 Justices of the Peace commisioned in Henry County; in October 1833, there was a Wm. Reeves, (Cited as William Reeves in the index) J. Reeves and Lawson Reeves (page 57-58) on a list of voters at the house of John Lovejoy on in the 12th district of Henry County, voting for the Governor of the State and members of the General Assembly. There was a Reeves Creek: In 1864, t he right wing of Sherman's Army (15th and 17th c orps) camped near Stockbridge on its march to the Sea. Woods and Hazens Divisions of the 15th corps marched toward Jonesboro then toward McDonough at Morrow Station, halted south of the Jonesboro Road (State 138) and camped on Reeves Creek west of town. When I lived in Clayton County many years ago, two older Reeves brothers and their tenant farmers lived on a large farm on Mt. Zion Road, next to ours. Anyway, you might want to check in other counties around. I found my ggrandmother in Spalding when she had been living in Fayettville in an earlier census. Many of these graves had no tombstones after the War and many had none at all. With the 159 counties of Georgia, you often have to think outside the box. Take care and good luck, J. M. Hi, This particular cemetery is surveyed in the latest Fayette County cemetery book, but not much information is given. The only dates shown are for Elisha F. Pollard (Mar 3, 1828 - April 5, 1869), and Mary E. Banister, w/o Elisha Pollard (Oct 3, 1838-Oct 27, 1918. Also listed in the book for this cemetery are: Unmarked graves; Chandler, Louisa Bannister Pollard, Raymond, s/o W.T. Pollard Pollard, infant of W.T. Pollard Bannister, Obediah Bannister, Mary Griggs, w/o Obediah Bannister Bannister, Puss, sister of Obediah Bannister Bailey, Maude Bannister, d/o Obediah Bannister I can send a copy of this via snail mail if you would like. There is a short writeup on the descendants of Wyatt and Ellen Chandler, and Asa and Polly (Bailey) Chandler, in the Fayette County heritage book. I can also copy and send that if you have not seen it.
