Whidby. Lizzie's parents were Amanda Jane Reeves and J.H. Jones. I believe the J in J.H. was for Jackson. Lizzie's brothers were: W.R., C.F. and J.T. Jones. Her sister was Kate or Katie Jones White. Amanda Jane Reeves, b. 1839, d. 1925. J.H. Jones, b. ~1837, d. 1910. I believe Lizzie had a child named Howard who died in 1912 at the age of 14. Another Whidby connection to my family is Mittie Stephens Whidby who was married to Charles Augustine Whidby, who died in 1927 in Macon, Bibb County, Georgia. Mittie's mother was Rebecca C. Reeves, b. 1838, d. 1907, second wife of Dionysius Virgil Stephens. Mittie b. 1870, d. 1939. My connection to both of these Whidby families is the Reeves sisters, Rebecca C. and Amanda Jane. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: AUBY239 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.georgia.counties.fayette/1465/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have been trying to find the burial place of Trustus Barrentine and wife for several years. I attended a family reunion today and one of the older cousins told me she went to a distant cousins house near Fayetteville several years ago. She thought the person's name was Nelson Banks but she was not sure. Anyway, the Banks family and Barrentine family have intermarried several times. On this Banks property, the owner showed her a pond and near the pond is two graves marked only with stones. The owner said his father told him the graves were "old man" Barrentine and his wife. He said his father made him promise he would never disturb the graves and keep them maintained. Does this ring any bells with anyone?. you can email me at auby239@yahoo.com John Awbrey Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 2. Thanks, Lynn! I have a ton on these families if anyone is interested. My husband is a descendant of the Hardy, Nixon, & Coggin families, so the folks mentioned in the marriage announcement are cousins. BTW - I have never been able to "prove" the middle names of Harrison H. Nixon and Elvira H. Elmore. The only time I have seen them written was in a family history written by a descendant of Alice Pearl (Nixon) Horton, sister of Lucy Amy (Nixon) Moody. I am primarily interested in Littleberry Jackson, listed as L. Berry Jackson in the 1870 Census. He is aged 66 in the Census. His wife is listed as Patience. I believe this to be the same Littleberry Jackson who married Patience Harris in Greene County Georgia on July 4, 1827. Littleberry lives next door to a Blake Jackson aged 41 who is probably related and maybe a son. Both Littleberry and Blake moved to Floyd County Georgia sometime in the 1870's and appear in the 1880 Floyd County Georgia Census. Any information at all on any of these people would be greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I did a fair amount of research on the Preacher family of Sweats, since I suspected some tie with our S.C. lines of Cook, Richardson, etc. Farley Sweat moved to Chatham county, GA and lived next door to our Samuel Richardson when he was there. They were neighbors back in (Barnwell, Beafort, then Hampton)S.C. and were near the same age. Have you ever heard rumors that the Sweats were of some exotic ancestry, like Portuguese, Spanish, American Indian, etc.? Sweat is a so called "Melungeon" name in the Pee Dee River region, where my Cooks came from before they moved into Hampton County. I never heard the term "Melungeon" from my relatives, but they did say we had Portuguese/Spanish/American Indian and Gypsy, with some tale about pirates. I had a dna test done which verfies the Portuguese, Spanish, American Indian, and probably Gypsy, also Sephardic Jew (Portuguese). Please let me know if any of this rings a bell with you or your kinfolk. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hello Carol, I cannot prove nor disprove your assumption about Elizabeth Ann Gray (1822-1882), but will say I had come to the same conclusion, based on the same evidence. I suspect proof of the fifth child's name will only be found in the detail of Abraham Gray's Coweta County estate legatee records, which I have not reviewed. Bob J. 1. [GAFAYETT] Elizabeth Gray Posey1822-1882 dau of Abraham Gray?
    2. Carol Hoyt
    3. I did a little research on the Posey family since my great great grandfather, William Bishop, was a witness, to the will of James Posey on 28 March 1906, (Fayette County Will Book B, pg. 43) >From census records and the death certificate of a son, James' wife was Elizabeth Gray. Could this be the daughter of Abraham Gray 1790-1856? According to his will, Abraham had 5 children, only three of them were named. I have the names of four of his children: Lydia Gray Lynch, Nancy Gray Sampson, Hosea Gray and Benjamin Gray. I thought Elizabeth Gray Posey might be the fifth child for the following reasons: 1. She's the right age. According to the 1840 census, Abraham had a daughter between the ages of 15 and 20. 2. She was born in South Carolina. The Grays moved from South Carolina to Georgia about 1828. 3. She and her husband James are buried in the Countyline Cemetery of the Christian Church. Abraham and all of his other children are buried there. 4. William Bishop was a witness to her husband's will. The Gray family and the Bishop family were close. There are several marriages between the two families. 5. She and James had a son named Benjamin. If this Elizabeth is the daughter of Abraham, she had a brother named Benjamin. If anyone has any information to prove or disprove this theory, please let me know. Carol Hoyt Neodesha, KS choyt@terraworld.net
