    1. Re: [GAFAYETT] Asa Chandler of Fayette County, Georgia
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: bobjohnston1934 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.georgia.counties.fayette/1474.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Although I have not researched the Chandler line at length, your post was of considerable interest to me because of a Fayette County marriage to a Chandler in my May family line, and your mention of May as one of your surnames of interest. I have researched the Fayette County May family for many years. You can find a brief writeup about these folks I did a few years ago, either in the Fayette County heritage book, or on line at the Fayette County GenWeb site. Or, I can send it to you. I cannot add much to what you have on Asa Chandler, except to say that I believe his will was executed on 12 June 1852, and proven on 1 November 1852. That should help you narrow down his date of death. I cannot find him listed in the Fayette County cemetery book. Asa Chandler's daughter Kitturah Ann "Kitty" Chandler married my great-great-uncle, Jeptha V. May (1814-1899). If that is your May line, we are cousins. If you chose to, you can reach me directly at: bobsedge@sbcglobal.net. Robert Edge "Bob" Johnston Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [GAFAYETT] Asa Chandler of Fayette County, Georgia
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jvhilton Surnames: Chandler, Bailey, May, Tinsley, Hollingsworth Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.georgia.counties.fayette/1474/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Asa Chandler, a long time resident of Fayette, County Georgia was born approximately 1780 in Virginia. Asa died in Fayette, County, Georgia sometime between June 1852 and July 1853. Asa and his wife Mary Polly Baily raised nine children - four sons: Baily, Wyatt, Allen and William Perry and five daughters: Patsy, Polly, Martha, Kitturah and Mary. I believe Asa's father to be John Chandler, but exactly which John Chandler is unclear. It is possible Asa's father is John Chandler born 1755 in Lunenberg, Virginia, died 1850 Benton, Alabama. It is also possible that Asa's father is John Chandler, Jr. born 1759 in Virgina, died 1838 in Buncombe County, North Carolina. Asa is my 5th great grandfather. Any suggestions to further my research and identify Asa's father would be deeply appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It is fairly complete but is missing at least one line of descendants. I would like to find out who created this chart and where I might be able to access it (looks like it was done in family tree) so I can merge it to the missing line. It appears there are many Stinchcombs on the chart. The missing line concerns James D. Brown's daughter Mattie Lou. Only her second husband, Couch, is shown. There was a first husband, LP Chapman, and three children with him, two of whom have several descendants. This is my husband's line. Amy help appreciated. 3. I have seen mention of Haisten's in some pretty old records but the one I remember going to when I was young was in Spalding County, not Fayette. I don't know if they have maintained their records from the beginning. I would guess your best bet would be to search the deeds of the family you know were buried there and try to locate it that way. The deeds are available online and are searchable: http://www.fayetteclerk.com/ Property Index Search on left hand menu. 3. Thanks-- got any clues as to what funeral house was in operation in 1863? :) To my knowledge, there were only a handful of burials in this family cemetery-- The last funeral home I asked in Fayette County about an old cemetery just laughed-- On Sep 9, 2010, at 4:23 PM, Raymond F MacMahon wrote: > If you know what funeral home conducted the service, call them.
