There is apparently an unincorporated Kenwood section of Fayette County which contains the Kenwood First Baptist Church in Fayetteville and a Kenwood Christian Church in Riverdale. The Christian Church has been renamed Christ Church at Whitewater. According to the receptionist, there is no cemetery. No response from the Fayetteville Church. But Fayette County memebers would know if there is an old cemetery in the area, if not at the Baptist Church.
Hi Alfred, A few items for you : -- The County of Fayette was formed from Henry County and Indian Lands in 1812. ---H enry County, Georgia, Obituaries 1908 -1929, Compiled and edited by Rhoda A. Bowen: p. 94: Henry County Weekly, May 24, 1912: Mr. Walter W. Ammons died Sun.at his home in Covington, he is survived by his wife, 3 sisters, Mrs. F.M. Patterson, Mrs. Ema Stroud and Mrs. Fletcher Noles of Jackson. Funeral and burial at Fairview mon. p. 159: Henry County Weekly, Mar 2, 1917: Philipi News: Mention of Mrs. M.E. Knight returning fro m funeral of nephew Mr. E. L. Ammons who was brought from Ft. Bliss, El Paso, Texas. There were quite a few Ammons listed in "Henry County Georgia, the Mother of Counties" by Vessie Thrasher Rainer. If I have time later, I wil try to send these also.
Alfred, I had not seen a reply to your recent query, so I checked what I have at hand. Unfortunately, there is no Lynwood Cemetery mentioned in the latest Fayette County cemetery book, nor are there any Ammons burials listed in the index. I also checked the Fayette County history book, but, again, there were no Ammons listed in the index. I also went to Ancestry.com, did a search for any Ammons living in Fayette County during the 1850-1870 period, but did not find any. But, there were a large number by that name living nearby in Henry County, and a smaller but significant number living in Clayton and Fulton Counties. I suggest you look in Henry County. As you likely know, these counties went through a number of boundary changes over the years, with some folks never moving, but living in different counties as a result of the changes. Bob J. http://cdm.sos.state.ga.us/cdm4/countyfilm.php The Fayette County marriage records microfilm are available online at the Georgia State Archives link above. Select Fayette County in the drop down menu. Then select the book that covers 1850. If you go to the Index 1 and select B (cont) - C, I think you'll see why you have found her name transcribed the way it is.......it is very hard to read in this index. To the right of her name you will see the number 67. After looking at the index, select the + beside contents and it will open and show the page numbers - go to 66 and 67 and you can download the file to your computer. Teresa (Tressy) Jane Ballenger married Newton Creel Dec. 8, 1850 in Fayette County, Ga. The problem is the spelling. I found the following on line: Newton Crewl m. Teressa J. Baleayed 8 Dec. 1850 Fayette, Georgia Could/would someone look this marriage license up and send me a copy. I will gladly pay for it. I understand that Teressa was an orphan and raised by a Creel family. She is my brick wall. Newton was the son of John Creel and Polly Belcher Creel. I received a message today from someone looking for direct descendants of Governor Jared Irwin. I am one and I believe there are others on this list that descend from the marriage of his daughter, Mary Elizabeth and Simon T. Whitaker. The SAR is having a grave marking ceremony in April at his grave in Washington County, GA. and they are looking for family members of Governor Jared Irwin who would be interested in attending. The man who contacted me is descended from his brother, John Lawson Irwin who is buried beside him. If you know of living descendants of these families, please contact me off list. John Irwin Whitaker and Levicy Gay - Martha Whitaker and Columbus Sams, Elizabeth Whitaker and C. B. Nipper, Mary Jane Whitaker and Lewis H. G. Roberts, Simon T. and Seletha Virginia Travis (Bob, are you out there? - can't remember if you are direct descendant or not.......) Simon Thomas Whitaker and Nancy Stubbs. William Whitaker and Mary Elizabeth Harper. Benjamin Thomas Whitaker. Mary Elizabeth Whitaker (I don't have a marriage for her or children) Hudson Whitaker, son of Simon T. - I don't have children for him or a marriage and believe he died young. Any help appreciated! Linda B.

Hello Fayette Researchers! As I was uploading new items to the Fayette County GAGenWeb site last night, I realized that in 3 months I will hit the 10 year anniversary of hosting this site for your use. My how time flies! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who have donated information for the site over the years and remind everyone that it's success for researchers depends on the willingness to share your data with others. I added a page for Medical Practice in Fayette county using an abstract from an 1874 Milledgeville newspaper listing licensed physicians in the state of Georgia from 1826 to 1874 - listing those from Fayette County. http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~gafayett/medical.htm If you have anything to share that will add to this page, please let me know.
