Lula may very well have been alive at the time the Census taker came around to her house. It's not uncommon to find that the census was started the year before and continued through the year after the actual date of the census. At look at the original may show the date the census info was actually collected. It's also not uncommon for headstones to be wrong - especially if placed years after the actual death.
