In researching the family of my 3great-grandparents James Calvin Marsh b 1795, who was married to Mary Brown and is found in the 1820 and 1830 Emanuel County censuses, I have become interested in the Reubin Marsh-Nancy Marshall family. Reubin's birthplace, like James's is not known for sure. Reubin was born about 1793 in NC or Ga, or, possibly, SC. He married Nancy Marshall, b 1797, before 1813. They were living in Montgomery Co Ga in 1813 when their daughter Sarah was born. I am still trying to establish how many children there were in this family. Most postings at Rootsweb name only Sarah b 1813 , Henry b 1818, Eady b 1820, John b 1821, and Littleberry b 1829. Someone sent me this information recently from Huxford, Vol. 5?: Reubin Marsh (1793) Married Nancy Marshall (1797) Children: Sarah 1813 m. Jacob Bradford James 1815 m.Caroline? Henry 1818 m.Rhoda Bradford Eady 1820 m. William Griffin, son of Joshua and Civil Nancy 1823 m. John E. Connell Abegail 1826 m. Daniel H. Clanton Littleberry 1829 m. Mahulda Bradford widow of Matthew Marshall John 1831 m. Rebecca Hall Martha 1833 Died Single Susannah 1835 m. Henry H. Reading in Marion Co, Fla. Reubin 1826 Married 1) Mary J Clanton in Berrien Co, Ga. 2) Susan P. Shearhouse in Marion Co Fl. George W 1838 Died Single Mary Ann 1840 m. Nathaniel A.J. Gordon in Marion Co. Fl. Moses 1842 Died Single In trying to trace this family, it seems that they moved to Telfair, then to Irwin County, but some of them moved on to Lowndes Co, then Berrian, then to Marion Co Fl, and some of them on to the Volusia Co Fl area. There is a James Marsh married to Caroline ? In the 1850 Irwin Co census: James 33, Caroline 23, John 12, Rhuebin 6, John 4, Jacob 3, and ??? 7/12. This family has been confused by some researchers in the past with James Calvin Marsh b 1823 who married Caroline Dukes Clanton, widow of James Clanton. The James Calvin Marsh family was in Bryan Co Ga in 1850, then were in Volusia Co Fl in 1860, back to Emanuel in 1870, then in Bulloch Co Ga thereafter. I don't know where this other James Marsh family was after 1850. The Daniel H. Clanton who married Abigail Marsh was from the same extended Clanton family as James Clanton, first husband of Caroline Dukes. Some of these other spouses from Huxford were families who were found in the Emanuel Co area in the early 1800's. Rebecca Hall was a daughter of Enoch Hall, for instance. In the 1800 Kershaw Co S.C. census, I found the Marsh, Marshall, Bradford, and Clanton names. I am wondering if some members of these families moved together to the Emanuel Ga area in the early 1800's. I think that Reubin b 1793 and James b 1795 may have been born in the Kershaw S.C. area, or at least descend from a family/families that were there before moving to Ga. Reubin b 1793 died in 1849 in Irwin Co Ga. He was living there in 1830 and 1840 also. Is this his family? It sure looks like it: Nancy 53?, Little B. 21, Martha 17, Susannah 15, Rhuebin 14, George w 13, Marian 10, and Moses 5. I don't find any of this family in Irwin Co in 1860. In 1860, Reubin Marsh 1834 was living in Volusia Co Fl, and was married to Mary Clanton, whom I believe was the daughter of Caroline Dukes and James Clanton and was the step-daughter of James Calvin Marsh. Also living in Volusia Co and Sumpter Co Fl in 1860 and 1870, was Dr. Henry Marsh, a son of Reubin b 1793. These two families remained in that area. Others were apparently in south Ga and in Marion Co Fl. I would appeciate any information on this family. Carol B. Miller
