Does anyone know if there is any connection between this William Hall, father of Roxey Ann, and the other William Hall listed in Emanuel County 1850 census with wife Martha, age 56, daughter Martha, age 19, William age 14, John age 12, Benjamin age 10 and Frances age 8. Many researchers think William Hall's first wife was Elizabeth Braswell. Mrs. HALL married William HALL son of Juniper or Geneper HALL and Miss BRASWELL before 1820 in Georgia. William was born about 1792 in Georgia. (It is thought that Juniper’s wife is a daughter of Kindred BRASWELL.) William HALL is listed in the 1850 Emanuel County Census - GMD 28, house #108 - along with his brother Juniper Jr. At that time, his property was valued at $2000. >From the notes of Delores Thompson: William Hall, deceased 1857 (or the Wm Hall who has Juniper Hall residing with him in 1850) Emanuel Co Will Book B, pages 138-139: Georgia, Emanuel County. Recorded 1857 This appears to be a "pre-nup" post-nuptially since this William Hall married Sarah Rawles on 23 February 1851 in Emanuel County. In 1850 Sarah Rawles (age 46) was listed as head of a household which also included Silas Rawls (age 46), a schoolteacher (her brother or brother-in-law). That same year in the 28th District, #108 is William Hall, 58; Roxey Ann Hall, 15; Emilia Hall, 14; Henry Hall, 13; Juniper Hall, 55. James Stevens administered the estate of Wm Hall deceased from January to December 1857 (book C, 1858-1866, page 118) Interestingly.in 1841 Wm Hall was appointed guardian of Sarah Hall orphan an d minor of James Hall late of Emanuel, deceased. William X Hall, Thomas X Hutcherson. (Court Ordinary Minutes, page 135). NOTE: I wonder if this is the Sarah Hall who married James Overstreet and inherited from the estate of William Hall, deceased in 1857. Did he adopt his brother's child? Or perhaps this Sarah Hall is his grandchild (daughter of a deceased son James Hall). ______________________________________________________________________________ _ William and Mrs. HALL had the following children: 2 M i. William HALL Jr. was born after 1820 in Georgia. The existence of William Hall, Jr. is based on the wedding announcement of William Sr.'s son, Henry: "Southern Recorder, Milledgeville: Tuesday, May 12, 1857 - Married: On Thursday, the 16th ultimo, at the residence of William Bishop, Sr., by Owen McGar, Esq., Mr. Henry Hall to Miss Elizabeth Bishop, all of Emanuel County." 3 F ii. Mary "Polly" HALL was born about 1820 in Georgia. Mary married Miles FIELDS on 23 Feb 1837 in Jefferson Co., Georgia. Miles was born about 1790 in Georgia. He died before 1880 in Georgia. Miles fought in the War of 1812. 4 F iii. Sarah HALL was born about 1826 in Georgia. Sarah married James OVERSTREET on 5 Jun 1842 in Georgia. James was born about 1821. He died before 1900 in Georgia. 5 F iv. Martha HALL was born about 1828 in Georgia. Martha married Henry SCOTT son of Britain SCOTT and Nancy PRICE on 22 Jul 1845 in Emanuel Co., Georgia. Henry was born in 1817/1827 in Georgia. He died after 1880. In 1850 he and Martha lived next door to the widowed Mary M. Scott (Mary MOORE, wife of John J. SCOTT). Could he be John & Mary's son instead of Britain's?>> I like this question! It's one I have pondered over a good bit, and while I am not 100% sure that Henry was the son of Britain SCOTT, I am reasonably sure. I've never been able to find out anything on John J. SCOTT to connect him properly to our SCOTTs, but he had to have been close kin. Things I have considered besides the 1850 census you mentioned: Mary M. SCOTT had a daughter named Georgia Ann (who m. Welcome Coleman). Henry also named one of his daughters Georgia Ann. When John J. SCOTT died (1835) Britain SCOTT purchased from his estate sale. John J. could have been Britain's brother or uncle and therefore Henry's uncle or great uncle. Records I have found that give strong circumstantial evidence that Henry was the son of Britain & Nancy PRICE SCOTT: In the 1830 census Britain had living in his household 2 males in the 5-10 year-old bracket. In 1840 he had 2 males ages 15-20. His son Jesse was born about 1820. Henry was born about 1825. Both of them fit in these time frames. MIXED REGISTER OF BIRTHS, DRUGGISTS & ESTATES 1818-1894, pg 26: Sept. 18, 1837, Tuition payments made to Poor School of 57th district of Emanuel County for John Scott 9 yrs. 3 mo; Jesse Scott 17; Henry Scott 15. Clifton CS. Advertised the 19th of April 1845. Jesse P. Scott, Henry G. Scott, CC (I have another similar record in which Britain, Jesse & Henry's names appear together as they do in this one.) Jesse married in 1843; Henry in 1845. I think the above record shows that Britain was surveying his land in order to give his two sons land to set up their own homesteads. Henry's first son was named William B. SCOTT (B for Britain?) Henry's son James Lawson SCOTT named a son William Britton SCOTT. A descendant of James Lawson has told me that her family always said that Henry's father was Britain SCOTT. 6 F v. Susannah "Susan" R. HALL was born on 12 May 1830 in Emanuel Co., Georgia. She died on 7 Jul 1907 in Georgia. She was buried in Bishop Chapel Cemetery, Summertown, Georgia. According to the tombstone, her first name was "Susan", but the 1850 Emanuel County Census - GMD 28, Family 95 - referred to her as "Susannah". Susannah married William C. BISHOP Jr. son of William BISHOP and Sarah COLEMAN on 6 May 1849 in Emanuel Co., Georgia. William was born on 23 Jan 1827 in Georgia. He died on 28 Oct 1901 in Georgia. He was buried in Bishop Chapel Cemetery, Summertown, Georgia. 7 F vi. Roxie Ann HALL was born about 1835 in Georgia. Roxie married James S. STEVENS son of William STEVENS and Mary FIELDS about 1851 in Georgia. James was born on 20 Apr 1820 in Georgia. He died on 28 Oct 1885 in Georgia. He was buried in Stevens Cemetery, Coleman Lake Rd., Emanuel Co., Georgia. 8 M vii. Henry HALL was born about 1835 in , , Georgia. Southern Recorder, Milledgeville: Tuesday, May 12, 1857 - Married: On Thursday, the 16th ultimo, at the residence of William Bishop, Sr., by Owen McGar, Esq., Mr. Henry Hall to Miss Elizabeth Bishop, all of Emanuel County. In 1860 Henry was declared insane. His brother James became his guardian. Henry married Elizabeth BISHOP daughter of William BISHOP and Sarah COLEMAN on 16 Apr 1857 in Emanuel Co., Georgia. Elizabeth was born on 28 Apr 1839 in Georgia. She died on 13 Nov 1917 in Emanuel Co., Georgia. She was buried in Hebron Church Cemetery, Garfield, Georgia. Possibly the Elizabeth BISHOP married to Henry HALL, as listed on visit 168/169 of the 1860 Emanuel County Census. 9 F viii. Emilia or Emily HALL was born about 1836 in Georgia. Emilia married William MOXLEY in 1853 in Georgia. William was born about 1832 in Georgia. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Read only the mail you want - Yahoo!
