    1. My trip to Emanuel
    2. Tara D. Fields
    3. Well folks, James and I just got back from our trip to Emanuel / Jefferson Counties. I had a GREAT time. We stayed the first night at James's great uncle Jack's house (another Fields) south of Emanuel. The next two nights we spent in Swainsboro at the Coleman Inn (what a BEAUTIFUL house). We are very tired as we spent the entire time running around. We'd stop long enough to eat and would get back to our room exhausted each night. We saw a lot! We managed to find the grave of my husband's 3rd great grandparents (I'll pat myself on the back for that one, it was in the woods!) James's great uncle never knew that his own great-grandparents were buried so near. In fact, until I presented him with this information he didn't even know his name! He's approaching 80 years old and was thrilled with what we have all learned. We also visited the Hall Cemetery as well as about 10 or so other cemeteries. I will be posting the photos on my web site so you all can get copies if any happen to be also related to you. My high point was getting a photo with my husband, his father, and his great-uncle together with the grave of two people - their 3rd great, 2nd great, and 1 great grandfather and grandmother - respectively. It's a shame that my husband's grandfather has already passed away. I would have loved to have gotten a photo of a direct line - but this is close enough! Even my husband, who doesn't care about all of this quite as much as I do, felt that the trip was good. His grandfather Fields died the year before he was born. Pa Henry was always just a name. Spending time with his Uncle Jack (Pa Henry's son from his second marriage) was a blessing - James heard stories about Pa Henry he had never heard before. James said that he know feels like this man was a REAL person. As my husband has a better mind for stories I'm going to ask him to write down the ones we heard so that I can add them to the family file. The funny ones I'll also post to the list! All for now. I'm totally pooped, but I am looking forward to spending time organizing my photos and sharing them with you all. Without this list, this trip wouldn't have been very productive! Also, I have acquired some new books. Once I have finished with the photos I'll post the names of the books and offer to do (reasonable) look-ups. Take care, Tara Fields --- avast!
