As I have researched this story on the Wiggins' encounter with Sherman, it's been difficult to determine the exact facts of the story. I've added more to the story in recent months on the website. I've also discovered someone who has conducted detailed research on people who went along with Sherman's army during the march. I've been able to make some educated guesses based on this info. My best guess for now is that Sarah Wiggins and her girls went along willingly and played the part of Union loyalists. I believe this was an attempt to save what she could of her assets and provide cover for her sons. George and William Wiggins hid out in the Prong Creek swamp with the livestock until the army was gone. I grew up on that property and spent many days in those swamps along the creeks and even in modern times, it's not a nice place to hid out. I've also received some stories of George and John Wiggins hunting turkeys in th! is area that are interesting. They come from a relative who died in the 70s but left a video tape interview with one of my cousins. I plan to transcribe it and post it on the website when I get the time.
