Carol, Are you, or anyone else on the list, a WALKER researcher? I have W. B. WALKER who married Ella Fair GOFF, December 20, 1898. In the 1900 census, she is enumerated as Ella Fair WALKER in the household of Ruffus and Sylvannah PIERCE as "niece." She was Sylvannah's niece. The census indicates she had been married for two years and had a child who was no longer living. Can anyone identify W. B. WALKER? Thanks, Denise Wells Falls Church, VA -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]]On Behalf Of Carol Miller Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2008 10:06 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [GAEMANUE] Walker & KImball families of Burke Co Ga,Thompson & Chambers Hello list, Here is some information on the Walker family of Burke Co Ga. Back in 2003 there was some brief discussion of this family on this list, so I am hoping some of you can help me. In Feb 2007 I posted some deeds that I found for my 3great-grandfather Reubin Thompson in Burke and Screven counties. One of them involved a sale of 200 acres of land in Burke Co from Reubin Thompson and his wife Rachel Chambers to Charles Kimball. I have learned that this Charles Kimball was probably the son of Charles and Diana Kimball of NC. The son Charles was born in NC but moved to Burke Co Ga by abt 1786. In a 1786 deed, Reubin Thompson and John Michael Burkhalter were chain carriers for 200 acres of land that Charles Kimball bought in Burke Co. The land at this time was vacant all around. This deed puts Reubin Thompson in Burke County by 1786. I also found a listing at Compton's Plats that says he was an adjacent landowner on a 1787 deed in Burke Co, though I don't know if a record of his land deed still exists, or when he purchased it. Information that I have found on Charles Kimball show that he was born abt 1750 in N.C., and married Anne Walker, daughter of James Walker and Mary Sanders of Prince William Co Va. They had sons Walker, Jeremiah, and Charles. Charles married Rebecca Murray of Burke Co Ga, daughter of Stephen Murray. Anne's brothers were Rev Sanders Walker of Wilkes Co Ga and Rev Jeremiah Walker of Elbert Co Ga. Rev. Jeremiah Walker died in Elbert Co in 1806, and in his will he left abt 700 acres of land "on the north side of the Savannah River" to his sons, land he purchased from Robert Chambers. I think this Robert Chambers was probably a son of my 4great-grandfather Jonas Chambers. I'm wondering if the land was in Burke Co. I have found plats for Rev Sanders Walker in Burke Co and figure that Jeremiah also owned land in the area. The Kimball land plats were adjacent to some Thompon ones. In 1791 Charles Kimball purchased 200 acres of land in Burke Co bounded by Stephen Murray, William Sapp, and John Bell (who also bounded Jonas Chambers' land). Also, Jane Tweedy and by Oglesby. In an 1822 deed for 230 acres he was bordered on two sides by "Mrs. Thompson", by Anthony Mills, and by Martin Herrington, also by Addison Sapp. All of this land - Kimball, Chambers, Thompson - was in the southwestern part of Burke Co near the Screven Co border, in the Brier Creek area and just over the line from the Millhaven plantation. I am looking for information on the children of Jonas Chambers and on the relationship of Reubin Thompson to these families mentioned in the plats. I have noticed that the Nicodemus Thompson family and the Murray family passed through Bertie Co NC on their way to Burke Co Ga. I also noticed that Bertie Co is given as the birthplace of Anne Watkins Douglass, wife of Reuben Wilkinson who was a witness to some of the Thompson/Chambers deeds. Reuben's sister Sarah was married to Seaborn Jones who owned land adjacent to Jonas Chambers and also appears on some of the deeds. Thanks for any help or ideas about these families. Carol B. Denise, Not really. I have a great-aunt who married a Lott Augustus Walker in Emanuel Co, and I do have a paper file on his family that a cousin sent me. I'll dig it up and see if I can find yours.
