    3. I would be interested in what it takes to be a history trainer and is it the same trainer for genealogy. Where are they located and what classes do they offer? 1. [GAEMANUE] WEB SITES Problems in Authenticity and Lack of Citations

    3. I'm amused and embarrassed at the misinterpretation of the phrase 'trained historian'................I have degrees in history from the University of Georgia (won the top award for exellence in GA/colonial history)......the 'training' was on site working in the Georgiana Collection (archives, rare books, and manuscripts related to GA history) in the UGA library, then as archivist at Virginia Military Institute and many years more after that....... The 'training' is most effective in the learning of what is called 'methodology'...........for instance, that matters written down, in these days often 'on line' should be accompanied by citations /sources...........without that?? Then many readers will simply assume that whatever they see in print on a web site is fact.....and then it spreads farther and farther until it grows and becomes deeply established " fact" and difficult to correct or to stop.... This has grown out of control with the computer age. No method for differentiating a known, proven (by sources, documents) fact when entered on line from a date or a name passed along in print with no citation. How to fix this? I've been told that it's not a real problem....."We want everyone to put in what they know...."........that doesn't hold water because most readers accept outright whatever they see in print...............and then spread it Even historic organizations with excellent programs and intentions often don't realize this. There is a marker at Hawhammock Church commemorating the revolutionary service of Daniel Boatright. It is a handsome monument and a source of pride for all of his descendants. But it is not worded to make clear that he is not actually buried there. Since that monument was erected numerous writings have stated that DB is buried at Hawhammock. How to improve and strengthen family history shared and researche on the web? Perhaps those writing could use formatting to differentiate what they can back with citations (from documents) from what they have seen in writing or heard but cannot back up......for instance italics for the latter. There is going to be a tremendous problem with incorrect family history as years go by..... V.
