Well said, and I apologize if I offended you about being a trained historian. You certainly have the earned degrees in your field of history as well as job experience. The study of Genealogy comes in many forms. I have been active in this area for about 48 years and yes i am in my early 70's. You are absolutely correct that when someone submits their version to roots web or some other site it becomes fact with no documentation. In the early days before any census records were available except the 1850 the only source was the County Courthouse records, Family Bibles, ( which were not always correct) Cemetery Records, if you could find the Cemetery and then the Family Members. The Family members always knew about their lineage. They descended from four brothers that came to America from England and one remained in the North, two went West and one came South thru North Carolina to Georgia and married a Indian Princess. ( it was good to have Indian blood) Then there was the disagreements between families which became real when they met and started killing each other. Try as you may and the real reason for the feud has many answers, none factual. This was the case in the Mosley, Williamson feud in 1855. We will never know the real reason, but ask any Mosley or Williamson and they have the answer. In this day of on line records and research it becomes the duty of all of us to view postings as they are and then we must document them or discard them. I would encourage all to post their records in hopes that someone may see those postings and tie their line to it. Then the documentation can start. If we wait for all postings to be documented and added to the posting it will stop a large amount of on line genealogy, some correct and some not. Keep on posting, I read every one in hopes that I can connect one of my lines.
