Emanuel County already has one marker of the Georgia Civil War Heritage Trails  about Sherman's route to the sea at the junction of Hwy 56 north of Summertown and Old Savannah Road---like going to McKinney's Pond. It was dedicated 3-4 years ago.   The second marker will be near the junction of Hwy. 1 north and Coleman Lake Road near the Jefferson County line.   Mary Ann Smith

In Emanuel Memories on page 35 is a map approximating the routes Sherman's troops took through Emanuel County. The one Mary Ann referenced would be the 17th Corps along the Old Savannah Road. Another line shows the 15th Corps entering the county on the western side near Blundale, traveling south to Dellwood, east to just north of Modoc (along the road where my family lived) then on to Canoochee, then Garfield.
