I have been running Linux for years. Although my computer has Windows installed, I rarely boot it up. One way to test-drive Linux is to boot a live cd. This is a cd that runs linux on your machine without making any changes to your hard drive. You need the live cd itself, and a computer that can boot from a cd drive. Here is a page on Linux in general: www.linux.org Different versions of Linux are called distributions. Here is a page on the most popular distribution. http://www.ubuntu.com/ There are quite a few so called tiny versions of Linux. Here are a couple that I've tried. http://www.slax.org/ http://puppylinux.org/ I recommend doing some reading before you jump into Linux. Hugh

That's the way I am about IE, I started using Firefox a about a year ago and never use IE anymore even though it's still installed. IE gradually bogs my browsing down to a crawl and I never have that problem with Firefox. There is several Yahoo Groups catering to Linux users that could be very helpful for someone wanting to try it and needs support from experienced users, I know I would. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hugh Lawson" <hlawson@triad.rr.com> To: <gaemanue@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 14, 2009 9:23 AM Subject: Re: [GAEMANUE] Computer problems > On Mon, Dec 14, 2009 at 07:31:43AM -0600, jerry stevens wrote: > > Jane wrote, > > > I agree I hat Vista but that is my only option.. > > > > I have a few friends that runs the free Linux OS and they > > are very happy with it. > > I have been running Linux for years.
