Joseph "Jugger" Davis, my GGGrandfather was born in 1826 in SC. His father was Charles Davis. Mother uunknown. Possibly a Hilliard. The only other known sibling was Larkin Davis. Joseph was married 2X 1.Lucretia Johnson; b. 1828; children were; Lawson Gamble Davis; b. 7/24/1848 Charles Hilliard Davis; b. 3/13/1854 Matthew T.; b. 1856 Joseph L.; b. 1858 Lucretia's father was Matthew Johnson; b. abt 1782 Johnson Co. NC/ wife Nancy ___. My family is decended from Lawson Gamble Davis. It is generally assumed that Lawson Gamble is named for Roger Lawson Gamble, a prominent politician of the day. This is possible but I tend to think that Joseph "Jugger" is possibly related to the Lawsons and the Gambles ( 2 prominent Georgia Families) or his wife Lucretia was. The Lawsons and Gambles had intermarried for several generations. I have all my history back to Joseph. His 2nd m. was Rebecca Newsome; b. 1841; Children were Malinda b. 1859 Victoria b. 1861 Thomas b. 1863 Elizabeth b. 1867 Joseph "Jugger" died in Glascock Co. in 1878 Lawson was also married 2 X. I have all the info ...but that is another story... Thanks to anyone who may be able to assist me further in going on back to Charles and beyond.
