Larkin Davis is not an uncommon name in the south. Here's a description of the naming order that may have been used by Joseph Davis: http://arms2armor.com/Genealogy/names1.htm and http://www.genealogy.com/35_donna.html And this one is even more interesting - http://www.hagcs.org/naming_patterns_and_customs.htm You also have to consider in some families who were Scots-Irish that they may have used a Scottish tradition: http://www.wakefieldfhs.org.uk/morayweb/naming traditions.htm I can't find the other naming tradition I've read about where the first born son is named after the father. It might havebeen referenced in the book "The Seeds of Albion", which is an interesting read. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
