    3. The marker that says" Father of Methodism" is actually in Bethel Church cemetery. His actual burial is @ the Sumner/Flanders cemetery. 3.    Jordan (also spelled Jourdain or Jourden in various records) Flanders is said to be the Father of Methodism in Emanuel County, GA.  In 1821, he was a Land Lottery winner in Chason's District, and a Soldier in the Emanuel County Militia.  From May 25, 1840 to Jan 20, 1842, he was a Clerk of the Emanuel County Superior Court and Inferior Courts. He was an Officer of the Court of Ordinary from Mar 12, 1847 to Jan 12, 1852, and he began serving as Clerk of Inferior Court on Jan 10, 1854. He served as Emanuel County Tax Collector from Jan 12, 1857 to Jan 11, 1859.  According to the 1870 Emanuel County Census, he was a carpenter and preacher.  Between his two wives, Jordan fathered 20 children!    Although he is buried at the Sumner & Flanders Cemetery near Swainsboro, GA, there is also a monument in his memory located at Bethel Church Cemetery near Swainsboro.

    3. Carol and all, I incorrectly posted earlier that Carol said there is a marker at Ebenezer Church for Jordan Flanders. Actually, I have Carol as a source that there is a marker at Bethel Church, just as she says below. I mistyped, following Olivia's original question, instead of the notes I have in my database. I am sorry that I credited you, Carol, with incorrect information. You are always such a great help and I knew you would be with this too.
