The Macon Daily Telegraph - Wednesday Morning April 21, 1909 - Pioneer Citizen of Emanuel County Dead Swainsboro - April 20 - The remains of Mr. David J. Edenfield, one of the oldest citizens of the county, were interred Monday afternoon at Mount Pleasant, a country churchyard several miles form this city. There was a great outpouring of people to pay their last tribute to one of Emanuel's pioneer citizens. Mr. Edenfield was born in the early part of last century, being at the time of his death 88 years old. He was a man of massive intellect, sterling integrity and honor. By thrift, industry and good management he amassed s considerable fortune, which he invested chiefly in lands in this county. He married Miss Jane Kennedy, a scion of an old and substantial family of this county, and their union was blessed with fourteen children, thirteen of whom are living. Several years ago Mr. Edenfield joined the Mount Pleasant Methodist Church and since that time has been a consistent member. On Saturday night he retired apparently as well as usual. Sunday morning when he did not appear at breakfast his wife went into his room and was shocked to find him lying on the floor cold in death. The deceased is survived by his wife, five sons, Messrs. Mr. Rufus Edenfield, Gilbert Edenfield, H. C. Edenfield, Wright Edenfield, of this county, and Julian Edenfield of Bulloch county, eight daughters, Mrs Gustave Jaeckal of Savannah, Mrs. Hattie Harling of Statesboro, Mrs. Eva Shuptrine of New Mexico, Mrs. A. H. Brown of this city, Mrs. Charlie Thompson of Quitman, Mrs. Bessie Baggett of Statesboro, Mrs. Redding Thompson of Quitman, Miss Nettie Edenfield of this county. He is also survived by one brother, Mr. Richard Edenfield of Stillmore, two sisters, Mrs. Ephriam Kennedy of Wrightsville and Mrs. Lucy Byrd of Brooklet.
