I see it's a combo name. I"ve also just located documents at footnote.com showing Thomas Stroud making a claim for goods and livestock confiscated by Sherman's army Nov 1864 while he was serving as a private under a Captian Grubbs (Gibbs?) this is the first I've seen that Thomas Stroud served...the war between the states era has always fascinated me so I tend to gravitate towards that.
