Jim Stroud m. Cula (?) Jim Stroud - son of James Jackson (Jack) Stroud (m. Lythan Stevens ) James Jackson Stroud son of John Stroud(1824-1890) & Susannah Drew Stroud. John Stroud (1824-1890) had 2 brothers James and Thomas Stroud, and possibly a sister Sarah. They were children of Thomas and Emilia Stroud, who were listed in Jefferson County in the 1820 census (I think it was 1820) Thomas and Emilia are my "brick wall" can't seem to find much about them. I learned that James Jackson was called Jack through my dad's cousins, one of which gave me a picture of the family, Jack is holding a baby in the photo. He was very tall , low brows deep set eyes and large hands. This picture also shows Jim at a younger age, maybe early 20's. I also have a picture of Jim with his 2nd wife and children. Jim was the father of the cousin that gave me the picture. I also have a ceramic cup that belonged to my great grandfather Jack Stroud. I wish there were more stories handed down through the family about John returning home from the war between the states. I've researched his unit as much as I can. I do know that he was captured at Mine Run Va in Nov 1863, but which prison he was sent to? Would have likely been Pt Lookout or Elmira. He was exchanged in Feb 1865 and paroled in Augusta GA May 1865. Now, how he got home to Emanuel county ? There's a good chance he walked and got rides here and there from traveling people. I imagine the RR was out in that area courtesy one Wm. T Sherman. I'd not heard the story about him coming home and having lice and keeping everyone at arm's length. but that would have not been surprising. I know the spot where his house stood, we used to go there often as children, we'd beg daddy to go to the "old place" one of which was his childhood home, which he tells me was once Jack Stroud's home. One of John and Susannah's boys was named Richard and his nickname was "dink" and the story was that he led the family and/or livestock to the "island in the woods" (in the direction of the promised land)to hide from the soldiers (sherman). Which can't be right because I think at the time, Dink was one of the younger children, if I'm not mistaken. In any case, I once sat in the crook of a tree that beloned to "uncle Dink" , and had a picture of it, which I have since lost track of.
