The Thomas Stroud mentioned in the blog was my g g grandfather John Stroud's brother. I recently found John's civil war service records and discovered that Thomas was member of a local militia regiment. Genealogy can be frustrating at times. you search for years and come up with nothing new then you get some good "hits". Hope you still have that stirrup, that was a good find.
