She was raised by her grandmother, Rachel Stroud the daughter of John Stroud. Rachel was the sister of James Jackson Stroud and was present when Sherman came through. Grandmama always referred to her great-grandfather as "John Joseph Stroud", never just "John Stroud". Sorry if this has caused any confusion, but it is definitely the same person.
