My great great Grandfather John Stroud was always just John. There has never been a middle name or initial, not in any census,not on his tombstone, not handed directly through my dad, his dad or his, all direct descendants of John Stroud. There was a John Joseph that was the son of either Thomas or James, John's brothers. But no, the John I speak of never had any middle name or initial. Sorry.
