Hi! Emanuel County researchers might like to know that the Brunswick News carried a long obituary for James R. Webb, Jr. on Monday, June 14th. He died May 30, 2010, and resided in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was the son of James R. Sr. and Lillian Hicks Webb and grandson [according to my research] of James Allen Webb and Adella Elizabeth Beasley Webb of Emanuel County. James Jr. graduated from Emory and Yale Divinity School and was on the organizing committee for establishing Epworth By the Sea on St. Simons, a Methodist retreat center. James was a Beasley, Rowell, Meeks and Hart descendant, also, if my research is correct. Marilyn Lear Brunswick
I am sorry to hear this. Epworth by the Sea holds a fond place in my memory. For two or three years when I was in high school (early 1960s) I attended a two-day winter choral workshop there. Epworth was a wonderful facility - loved the Tabby House! - and in the mornings there was a piper who would wake us up with a bagpipe serenade.
