I have he's buried in Sumner and Flanders Cemetery, according to the Cemetery book, pg. 383. I also have a note that there is a marker at Ebenezer too. My source for this is Carole Riner Everette, so as soon as she sees her email, I'm sure she will post with more information. I wonder if the LDS has ever gone in and copied any of these records? Linda Jacksonville, FL ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: "Michelle Jones" <maj10@comcast.net> To: gaemanue@rootsweb.com Sent: Sunday, May 2, 2010 6:14:48 PM GMT -05:00 US/Canada Eastern Subject: Re: [GAEMANUE] Emanuel County Historical Records I visited Swainsboro courthouse a few years back and was taken to the back room where these records were kept. It was horrible. They were thrown, pages ripped out, bindings broken, etc. Prisoners were brought in one day to wax the floor and they hit the bookcases and books toppled on the floor, they just threw them back up on the shelves. I asked for a copy out of one of the books and the lady practically broke the binding on the copier machine. Needless to say I was horrified and I told them so. I was told, Nobody cares what happens to those books, they stick and are a thorn in our sides. I was staying at a bed and breakfast and I spoke to the owners about this. It saddened me to the point of tears. The man said he would try and get it in the local newspaper, but that none of the historical societies had stepped up and tried to do anything, and usually that was the way to get it done. I guess reading this, they never did. I spoke with the archives in Atlanta, and they said if someone offered them the books they wouldn't take them - they had too many now to try and copy on microfilm. It seemed to me nobody was willing to help. Very sad indeed and such an injustice in my opinion. I find Abbie and Carrie Smith living in the Kibbee community in 1920 and 1930. This apparently is Carrie Hall, as Georgia Death Index lists her name as Carrie H. Smith. Georgia Deaths, 1919-98 Name: Carrie H Smith Death Date: 11 Aug 1989 County of Death: Toombs Gender: F (Female) Race: White Age: 89 years County of Residence: Montgomery Certificate: 031921 Date Filed: 29 Aug 1989 Georgia Deaths, 1919-98 Name: Abbie Smith Death Date: 12 Jun 1976 County of Death: Toombs Gender: M (Male) Race: White Age: 78 years County of Residence: Montgomery Certificate: 019864 I have been unable to find them in the Toombs cemetery book. Do you have any idea where they're buried? I now have these children for them: Mildred L., Thelma M., Douglas C., Nettie, and Arthur Lee; there were probably more. Thanks! Olivia, I can't find them in 1930 either. Her name may have been Carrie, though I can see how it looks like Cassie. At Ancestry, there is a posting for a Carrie Hall b 08/10/1900 married Abbie Isaac Smith who was born 10/22/1897 in Montgomery Co Ga. She is identified as the daughter of John G Hall and Sarah Jane Powell. They moved to Toombs Co sometime after 1930. This may be the right Carrie/Cassie. That's what is so goo about these Lists. The 1861 birth year for John G. Hall came from Mose's cemetery book. I have not actually visited the grave to check the date. In checking the 1920 census, I also found Sarah J., a daughter born about 1916, as well as the Nexie(?) and Eudine you listed. I have not been able to find this family in the 1930 census at all. Have you? As far as Cassie/Carrie, it looks like Cassie to me (1910), and she is not listed with the family in 1920, so I'm assuming she probably married. I find a Cassie Jarriel in Toombs County, age 19, married to Oscar Jarriel. I cannot find them in 1930, either, but I find Oscar's death in Bulloch County in 1963. I'm assuming Cassie died young. This may or may not be Cassie Hall, but the date and general location matched. Thank you again for your help on this, and I've changed my file accordingly. One posting on Ancestry show a Carrie Smith 1900-1989 as the daughter of John G. Could that be correct? Hall, wife Sarah? You're absolutely right, Carol. I don't know how I got this mixed up, but it happens, and it's always good to compare notes and straighten out our files. Yes, they were both daughters of Arthur and Charlotte "Lottie" Adams Davis, who lived in the vicinity of Lothair in presentday Treutlen County and are thought to be buried at Red Bluff Church cemetery where many members of this family are buried. Although Davis researchers state that Eliza Ann and Frances were twins (born October 19, 1835), the 1850 Montgomery County census states it's Martha Ann and Eliza Ann who were twins, age 15, and Frances is listed as age 18. I don't know if this is a census taker's error or the error is with the researchers. I have not been able to make a determination at this time as to which I feel is correct. Arthur and Charlotte had at least one other set of twins: Isham J. and Julia Ann, who were born December 25, 1844. I visited Swainsboro courthouse a few years back and was taken to the back room where these records were kept. Michelle Jones
I found this record at Google books, from "Ga intestate Records" by Jeanette Holland Austin: Hall, Patrick, orph. of Geneper Hall Sr, Isaac M. Norman, gdn, 5/5/1828, Emanuel. So, this means that he was a minor in 1828, under the age of 21. Since he is supposedly not Martha Thigpen's son, he would have to have been born abt 1808-1811 to be under 21 at the time of this record. I am changing his birthdate to 1810 in my records. Does anyone have any information on Isaac M. Norman? Thanks for any help. Carol B. Miller
