Olivia, Ah, okay. I thought that you might be her but I wasn't sure, lol! I think we're related somehow through the Kent's of Glascock County - my great-great-great grandfather was Robert Dixon who married Martha Kent. I'll email you because I don't think that is related to this mailing list! Hello, Can someone look up a marriage for me? I can't find it on the GA Virtual Vault as they don't have the dates I'm looking for. I'm looking for the marriage of William Jason Brinson and Lucy Sherrod around 1898-1900. Also, is Olivia Williamson Saffold on this list? I found her website and tried emailing her but the email no longer works. Thanks, Kenneth Dixon _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail has tools for the New Busy. I am sorry to hear this. Epworth by the Sea holds a fond place in my memory. For two or three years when I was in high school (early 1960s) I attended a two-day winter choral workshop there. Epworth was a wonderful facility - loved the Tabby House! - and in the mornings there was a piper who would wake us up with a bagpipe serenade. Hi! Emanuel County researchers might like to know that the Brunswick News carried a long obituary for James R. Webb, Jr. on Monday, June 14th. He died May 30, 2010, and resided in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was the son of James R. Sr. and Lillian Hicks Webb and grandson [according to my research] of James Allen Webb and Adella Elizabeth Beasley Webb of Emanuel County. James Jr. graduated from Emory and Yale Divinity School and was on the organizing committee for establishing Epworth By the Sea on St. Simons, a Methodist retreat center. James was a Beasley, Rowell, Meeks and Hart descendant, also, if my research is correct. Marilyn Lear Brunswick

Sabra and Susannah Drew were the daughters of Levi Drew. I think Wilson may have been the grandfather or otherwise related. (the Wilson that served in the Rev. War) Also, I have glanced over info and found no concrete evidence of a John J. Stroud that was the son of James or Thomas, though each did name a son John. I think I recall John and Susannah's son John listed as John W and John J. on some boards. To add confusion there is another John Stroud that married a Susan in the late 1800's. Since John "JR" (of John and Susannah Drew Stroud) was born 1862-1863, he apparently was a "war" baby. 1880 census lists him as 17 which would put yob as 1863. Now that I have found documents that show John was wounded and sent home on furlough, this date makes more sense to me. And if he were born in 1862-(possibly late in the year, who knows for sure? ) imagine how that might have been for them when Dad came home wounded and then had to return to war. Sobering, sad and melancholy. Makes one appreciate what military families go through at times. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I also recall visiting a neighbor while making cane syrup. I remember a huge syrup vat, with sugar accumulating around the rim. Someone took some type of stick, got some syrup on it, rolled in around in the sugar and gave it to me as a treat. I hated it. I've never cared much for cane syrup before that and certainly not after. lol. Have found more info on John Stroud's service during the war between the states, the most complete I've ever found thanks to footnote.com. Seems he was wounded and sent home to Georgia on furlough between Aug2 -Nov 14 1862. Doesn't state which battle or nature of wound. He would have been present at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg, and captured Nov 30 1863 at Mine Run Va. He was sent to Old Capital Prison in Wash. Dc and transferred to Pt. Lookout Md in Feb 1864. In Feb 1865 he was in the Hosp, exchanged and paroled in Augusta Ga May 1865. During his service he also was sent out on 2 wk duty to arrest a deserter April of 62. Now, I may be mistaken, but it seems that somewhere I saw the birth of a child around 1863 to John & Susannah, but assumed the date was a mixup. Guess it wasn't after all. Also this website makes for fascinating reading http://preservefamilyandfarm.wordpress.com/ The Wiggins would have lived not too far from the Strouds, both Thomas and John's places. I've been in the area where John's house stood as well as visited his gravesite many times in earlier years. When you reach the North Prong, the land does lie low and look kind of swampy to this day, though it's been recently cleared or at least it had been when I last visited a couple of years or so ago. I'm guessing the "island in the woods" may have been an area in the swamps that was simply a bit higher ground. Grandma, and an aunt always said it was "towards the Promised Land" Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It turns out that she is a sister to my Great Grandmother, AMANDA ELIZABETH STEVENS. They were both children of JAMES A.STEVENS and ROXIE ANN HALL."MANDY" was married to EDWARD L."NED" GREEN, son of JOHN W. GREEN and NANCY MCGAR. I just saw the new photo of the headstone of JAMES S. STEVENS, posted by marshella11. It's a beautiful photo, but the headstone itself is sadly broken in half and it could use some cleaning. I would love to help with that, if I lived closer. I'm wondering what death date is on that headstone for JAMES, since it is posted as 28 Oct 1886 and 28 Oct 1896, and don't know why? They are buried at the STEVENS FAMILY CEMETERY on STEVENS Cemetery Road between Summertown and Midville. I remember visiting relatives and funerals and the house in front of it. The last time I was there in the 1980s. I had a very nice visit with REBA RINER STEVENS, wife of GEORGE A. STEVENS, who was living there at the time. (she must be a relative of yours, Carol?). GEORGE's father,YOUNG ROBERT STEVENS was brother to "MANDY" and "LYTHAN". When I was a little girl, my Uncle REMER GREEN and his wife ELIZABETH BOATRIGHT GREEN ("Aunt Sister"), lived and farmed there. He was a son of MANDY and NED GREEN. They had a peanut farm and sugar cane. I liked to watch the animals pushing the grinding wheel around to make delicious cane syrup. And chew on raw cane, then pump the water pump to drink cool water. And eat all the great country food. All good memories! Does anyone know if the GREEN/STEVENS families still have reunions at Coleman's Lake? T. Stroud is listed as a Private in Captain James Grubbs Company from Emanuel County. Called the "Minute Men," this unit was organized near Station Number 9 1/2 near Midville on June 25, 1863.
