    3. Ash, 4 years ago my husband and I got custody of our little niece, now age 6. The SCREWS line you asked about is part of her biological mother's family. I recently did some research on my niece's line and this is what I came up with. Any additions or corrections would be much appreciated. Carol Riner Everett First Generation 1. James SCREWS (CSA) , believed to be the son of Benjamin SCREWS and Nancy PARRADICE, was born about 1815 in Georgia or North Carolina. He died after 1880 in Jefferson Co., Georgia. Georgia Marriage to 1850: James SCREWS & Patsey HALL - 24 Mar 1839; Jefferson Co., GA. Co. K, 28th Regiment "Emanuel Rangers": Screws, James -- Private - September 10, 1861. According to the 1850 Emanuel County and 1880 Jefferson County Censuses, James was born in Georgia, but the 1860 Emanuel County and 1870 Jefferson County Censuses show his state of birth as North Carolina. 1850 US Census: Emanuel Co., GA - District 28, Family 130: SCREWS, James 33, b. Elizabeth was born on 12 Aug 1860 in Georgia. She died on 9 Sep 1927 in Emanuel Co., Georgia. She was buried in Moxley Cemetery, Swainsboro, Georgia. What was Lydia's maiden name? Some researchers claim that the wife of Zack SCREWS was Elizabeth KERSEY, daughter of John B. KERSEY and Sarah Ann BURRIS, who later married James Bush HOWARD. This cannot be correct, however: Lydia, wife of Zack, died in 1927. Elizabeth, wife of James, died in Florida in 1944. Georgia Deaths, 1919-98: Letha SCREWS - date of death: 09 Sep 1927. Lottie was born about 1895 in Georgia. 18 F ii. Sarah SCREWS was born in 1873 in Georgia. At Ancestry.com, Nancy Shaw lists a daughter named Sarah, born about 1873, as a child of Zack and Elizabeth Screws. There is no Sarah listed with the family on any Census records. She may have died young. 19 F iii. Susan SCREWS was born about 1879 in Jefferson Co., Georgia. 20 F iv. Matilda was born in 1856/1866 in Georgia. The 1880 Jefferson County Census indicates that Matilda was born about 1866, but later Census records show her being about 10 years younger. Littleton and Matilda had the following children: 32 F i. Bessie SCREWS was born about 1884 in Georgia. 33 M ii. Ivey SCREWS was born in 1889 in Georgia. He died on 4 Aug 1961 in , Fulton, Georgia. He was buried in Bethel Church Cemetery, Swainsboro, Georgia. Ivey is buried near his brother Millard's wife Roxie Flanders Screws. 34 M iii. Millard G. SCREWS was born on 9 Dec 1889 in Swainsboro, Emanuel, Georgia. Ancestry.com has a posting for an Aldophus Millard Screws - born 26 Sep 1892; died 17 Aug 1970 in Jefferson Co., Alabama, son of John Thomas Screws and Millie Samantha Doss. What is interesting is that Ronella Screws Johnson, daughter of Millard G. Screws, named one of her sons Adolphus. There has to be a connection somehow. How are they related? According to Millard Screws' World War I Draft Registration Card - dated 5 Jun 1917 - he was born in Swainsboro, GA, on 9 Dec 1889. He was involved in Public Works in Kite. Listed as employer was John Flanders, his father-in-law. Millard listed as a dependent 1 child. (His wife Roxie had died the previous year.) He was described as being tall and slender, with light blue eyes and black hair. When and where did Millard die? Where is he buried? Millard married (1) Roxie L. FLANDERS daughter of John Jordan FLANDERS and Jane M. BENTON on 7 Sep 1913 in Emanuel Co., Georgia. Roxie was born in Oct 1894 in Georgia. She died in 1916 in Georgia. She was buried in Bethel Church Cemetery, near Swainsboro, Georgia. Roxie (Flanders) SCREWS had a miscarriage shortly before she died. When Dr. "Babe" Meeks came to see Roxie, no one told him about the miscarriage ... probably out of modesty. Dr. Meeks thought she had the fever that was going around and treated her for that. It was probably the flu epidemic of that era. Roxie's mother expressed regret for the rest of her life for not telling the doctor about the miscarriage. According to her daughter, Ronella, "The miscarriage might have been brought on one day when Millard and Roxie had been to visit Millard's parents. On the way back Millard was mad at Roxie and would not help her carry Ronella on the long walk back home. He told her he would never go with her anywhere again. She soon got sick, had the miscarriage, and died. Millard never got to carry her anywhere except the graveyard." Millard married (2) Mattie FAIRCLOTH after 1916 in Georgia. Mattie was born about 1894 in Georgia. 35 F iv. Carry SCREWS was born about 1891 in Georgia. 36 F v. Lillie SCREWS was born about 1893 in Georgia. She died before 1925 in Georgia. Lillie married William Cannie FLANDERS son of Joseph Parker FLANDERS and Celia Elizabeth BRANTLEY about 1910 in Georgia. William was born on 25 Feb 1889 in Emanuel Co., Georgia. 37 M vi. 3. I think the John M. Edenfield living next door to Jesse and Rhoda in 1860 is Jesse's 1st cousin, John M. (1829-1884) s/o David and Cynthia (Mobley) Edenfield) m. Nancy E. Strange (1832-2894). Note their first child is named Cynthia after John's mother. I don't show Jesse with a brother John. If I'm wrong please let me know and I'll make corrections. Hope this helps. If you choose Edit you have choices of General which you always had, then Notes or Medical or Address or Options. This version has a lot of new features.
