    1. Jacob Durden/Mollie Hilliard
    2. I hope those in Emanuel County will be able to attend the SAR tombstone dedication for Jacob Durden (see below for details) We, as most, have Jacob Durden's spouse as Mary Ann "Mollie" Hilliard and we have extensive documentation which includes DAR Patriots Records, , military records, etc. Have any of you seen the genealogy reports who show Jacob Durden married to a Mary Ann WILLIAMSON? If so, do you know of any documentation to support this information? Thanks Claudia & Irene There will be a Revolutionary War Memorial Service for Jacob Durden (1755-1845) on April 24, 2005. The service will be at 3:00 PM at the Canady Cemetary. This cemetary is in Emanuel Co., Ga. It is located about 3 mile off of Highway 80 on North Old Reidsville Road, which is about halfway between Swainsboro and Twin City. The Service is being sponsored by the Sons of American Revolutionary Soldiers. All descendants of Jacob Durden are invited to attend. SARS will be placing a new headstone on Jacob Durden's grave.

Apparently, Angleline RODGERS was born shortly before the death of her father, Armstrong PARRISH, who died in the Civil War. Angeline and her mother migrated to Georgia with Edie's parents - Chesley and Risby RODGERS. Since her grandfather was the only "father figure" she ever knew and the family migrated to Georgia when she was a young child, most people apparently thought she was a RODGERS and called her by that name. In the 1880 Emanuel County Census, she was listed - as Risby A. RODGERS - in the home of her uncle Luke RODGERS. Source: Delores Thompson 19 F iv. 3. I've immersed myself in Scarboro(ugh)s the past few days. Here's what I've put together. There is a lot of data, so I'm sending it in 2 parts. Additions/corrections/comments are encouraged. Carol First Generation 1. Samuel H. SCARBORO son of Jackson and Eliza SCARBOROUGH was born on 1 Sep 1841 in Muscogee Co., Georgia. He died on 21 Jan 1918 in Georgia. He was buried in Jones/Calhoun Cemetery, Jefferson Co., Georgia. Co. H, 28th Regiment "Emanuel Rangers": Scarboro, Samuel H. (or Scarborough) -- Private - September 10, 1861. Captured at Morris Island, South Carolina September 7, 1863. Exchanged March 17, 1864. Pension records show he was in Greensboro, North Carolina hospital with typhoid fever close of war. (Born in Georgia September 1, 1841.) From Lynn Hall Eicher regarding Samuel and Susan Turner: "They are buried side-by-side in what my family refers to as the Jones Cemetery in Jefferson Co., GA. The cemetery, which I have heard referred to as the Calhoun Cemetery, is west of Blundale, literally in the middle of the woods, off a logging trail, which is off a dirt road. The cemetery is so close to the Emanuel County line that on some maps, which have the creek/county line incorrectly drawn, the spot of land it's on is shown as being in Emanuel. Currently, but that cemetery is not listed in any of the reference material I have found for either county. There are MANY graves. Unfortunately, very few are identifiable. Most were not marked, or were marked with wooden crosses, which are now nearly indistinquishable." 1870 US Census: Emanuel Co., GA - Subdivision 46; Household 50: SCARBOROUGH, Samuel H. 28 Susan P. 29 George W. 11 Rachel L. 9 Mary S. 6 Wm. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Cc.2ADI/649.1 Message Board Post: Here's what I have, Ralph. Any additions/corrections/comments would be appreciated. First Generation 1. James Solomon CHAPMAN son of Benjamin CHAPMAN and Lucy was born on 8 Dec 1853 in Georgia. He died on 11 Jun 1930 in Emanuel Co., Georgia. He was buried in Antioch Church Cemetery, Twin City, Georgia. From Ralph Chapman: "The Chapmans that came to Emanuel County between 1880 and 1900. The family story goes that the women, children and housegoods, furniture and other equipment came to Garfield by train from Warrenton. They stayed with some cousins (unknown) until they could find a place to live. The men and boys drove the cattle and other livestock by foot and wagon. Thus far, we can't tie James Solomon Chapman to the Warren County group. The family said they all came from the Williams Creek area of Warren county. There is a lot of Chapmans buried in the Church cemetery there. Further conversations lead to the name Ben Chapman and Lucy Bray as being James Solomon's parents. Can't tie that together either. Oh well." ************************************************************************************************************* 1870 US Census: Barnett, Warren Co., GA - Household 318: CHAPMAN, Benjamin 45 Lucy L. 39 William 18 James 16 Mary 13 Sarah 12 Richard 10 Abner 5 1880 US Census: Stag Hall, Warren Co., GA - District 121; Household 199/216: JONES, James S. 27 Lucy A. 3. Copied from Hephzibah Baptist Assoc. Centennial 1794-1894 by W. L. Kilpatrick DD, Augusta, Ga. 1788 Bark Camp Constituting Members. Of those who were members at the time of its constitution we are able to call the names of but four - Rev. Miles Scarboro, Silas Scarboro, Zebulon Cock and John Allen. The first named died in October 1790. The second had descendants in Emanuel County, one of whom is an earnest minister of the gospel. The third has a grandson, B. F. Cock , living in Coweta County, from whom much of this info here recorded was received. The fourth has descendants who are now members of this church, still holding to the faith of their ancestor, while others of his posterity have connected themselves with other denominations. Notably among the later may be cited the name of Rev. Young J. Allen, of the Methodist connection, and who for years bas been on of the trusted counselors of the Emperor of China. My ancestor, Jonathon Coleman, was a charter member of Bark Camp. Jonathon is the father of most Colemans from Emanuel County. The church abandoned in 1958 and had fallen on bad times. About a year and half ago a group of interested people gathered together and donated money, time and talent to reclaim this historical church and cemetery. This Saturday, April 23 we will have our 2nd annual meeting at 11 a.m. (A descendant of Rev. Allen will be unveiling a bronze plaque at the meeting Saturday) Any interested parties are welcome to come. We will have our meeting and enjoy an old fashioned dinner on the ground. We put a new roof on, painted the church inside and out, reworked the windows, had new shutters put up. We now have a deep well, and bathrooms! All the trees have been cut from the cemetery. Please go by and look when traveling Hwy. 56 from Midville to Waynesboro. The church is not locked. We plan to have a web site soon. I am the secretary-treasurer of the Bark Camp Association, If you would like to be added to the mailing list send me your info.
