Olivia, I do have George Dewey MURRAY, brother of Mittie, married to Lonie B. SPENCE, but I did not know that Lonie and Jim are siblings...certainly makes sense, though. Do you know who their parents were? Thanks for the tip, Denise In a message dated 5/14/2005 11:51:20 AM Eastern Daylight Time, saffold@pineland.net writes: > Denise, > > Didn't George Dewey MURRAY (1897-1949), brother of Mittie, marry Lonie B. > SPENCE (1913-1970), a sister of Jim? > > Olivia
If Lonie & Jim SPENCE are brother and sister, do we know who their parents are? I have a Tobe SPENCE and wife Lizzie who have a son named James born about Apr 1893. Are these their parents? I doubt Tobe was his real name; at least, I haven't found another Tobe Spence anywhere. Ideas, anyone? Carol __________________________________ Yahoo! Mail Mobile Take Yahoo! Mail with you! Carol, Will send more info later...I have a few questions, too. Gotta go to ball in Statesboro. It seems the Cross and Spence families tie in with the Green, McGar and Lamb families quite a bit. That was my interest when I was researching them a few years ago. "I have never breathed to a living soul." {Now paraphrased} Alvin Meeks was acquainted with Enon and as a teenager recognized his kin in town, Midville / Summertown area, but was not allowed to speak to him. Enon had married a Colored {Black} woman and this JUST WAS NOT DONE {in Georgia and the old South.} He (Enon) couldn't have farmed since he lived back in the swamp in a big house with a bunch of kids. So the townsfolk supposed he made moonshine. (Whiskey made illegally without paying taxes.) This is an interesting account, but how accurate is it? When I sent out the SPENCE information, there was a good bit of CROSS stuff there, as well. Mama is visiting me for a week (my oldest daughter graduates from college today!!). She told me that the CROSS family ties in with her Mama's side - either ALLEN or COLEMAN. I've done a lot of digging, but have not found the connection yet. The CROSS family originated in Burke County. My gggg-grandfather Barnabus ALLEN married a woman named Ethelinda born about 1809 in Burke County. It is "possible" that she is a CROSS or is related in some way, but I have no idea what her maiden name is. It would be lovely to be able to make the connection. Anyway, I've gathered lots of CROSS data over the last few days, so I'm sending it to the list in 2-e parts in the hopes that it will help someone with their research. As always, corrections, additions, etc., are encouraged! Maiden names of wives and spouses of daughters would be a great addition. Carol Riner Everett First Generation 1. Stephen CROSS (RS) was born before 1760. He died in Feb 1830 in Emanuel Co., Georgia. It is speculation that Isaac, Nancy, and Thomas are all children of Stephen CROSS, a Revolutionary Soldier. All of their families lived in Burke County and attended Bark Camp Church.
