This given name, Zorababel, seems very unusual today. I know it is a Biblical name, but does anyone know how common it was in the 19th century? There was a Zorababel Gay in the area back in the early 1800's as well. Carol B. Miller
My grandmother was a Hayslip. Her grandfather was Elijah b. 1814 who married Elizabeth Foyle. His first wife was Mary Tillman. I descend from Elijah Hayslip b. 1814 in Jefferson county, Georgia. I have not figured out how he ties to Zorobabel. Elijah died in Jefferson County in 1890. He raised his family there and is buried in the Wadley Cemetery. Gloria, I found Elmer's 1930 Richmond County, GA census which I would gladly send you, if you like? Do you know when Elmer & Lola's parents passed-away? I ask because Lola is in the census with Elmer & is only 10. Sincerely, Helena-Suzanne --------------------------------- Yahoo! Mail Mobile Take Yahoo! Mail with you! Does anyone have any information about the family of Elmer W. Smith, B: 1901, county unknown. D:2 Dec 1976, Augusta, Richmond County, Georgia. Married Manie Lou Moore (1901-1980) 8 November 1924, probably in Emanuel County. He had a sister named Lola Mae, possibly still living. This is all the information I have. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gloria Kahrs
Thanks for the marriage date and place and Reubin Coward's parents. I have MARRIAGE RECORDS OF EMANUEL COUNTY, GEORGIA 1817-1928 transcribed by Paul & Montell Truitt, however, I had not found the marriage record for Lucy Anderson or Nelson Martin. Now I know why, accordng to my marriage book, "Mary Cowart married Wilson W. Martin, 22 June 1864, book B, page 111". I know there are errors in this book. Is "Mary" and "Wilson" misreads/misprints of Lucy and Nelson? I have not viewed the orginial records. Judith > The marriage record for Lucy to Nelson Martin lists her name as Lucy Cowart, > so she must have used Anderson and Cowart interchangeably. I have that date > as June 22, 1864, Emanuel County, GA--Book B, page 111. >
Coward-Cowart Chronicles by Robt J. Robinson Reubin Coward was the s/o John and Lydia Rolllison Coward. He was born 1817 in Tattnall Co, Ga. . No further info.
Thanks to Sue Marsh's query about Louisiana "Lucy" Anderson, daughter of Hardy Anderson and Arminda Woodard I dug around a bit and found the following. If anyone can fill in with corrections or additions I would appreciate it. Found at the GAGENWEB site for Brantley Co, listed as buried in High Bluff Primitive Baptist Cemetery is: Louisiana "Lucy" Anderson Martin 13 May 1843 - 4 Oct 1913 Emanuel Co Pierce Co Nelson Wiley Martin CSA 5 Dec 1840 - 27 Feb 1929 Emanuel Co Brantley Co Arminta Woodard Coward 1823 -1899 I have not visited this cemetery and do not know if Lucy and Nelson's graves are near the grave for Arminta. I exchanged emails with the Brantley Co site host who helped organize their Historical Society. He said the cemetery is large and difficult to find graves. When I ask if Arminta's grave stone actually had Woodard as part of her engraved name, he said he did not know as the cemeteries names were compiled from many people and many sources. Has anyone visited this cemetery and found these three graves?? He did say that "our cemetery listing agrees that Arminta's maiden name was Woodard and her father's name was Milledge Mills Woodard..it also shows that she was married twice, first to Hardy Anderson and second to Reuben Coward". Has anyone found Reuben or Arminta listed in the 1860, 1870 or 1880 census? When did Reuben die? Nelson Martin, age 5, is listed in the 1850 Emanuel Co Ga household of James Martin, age 46, and Harriett, age 41. Listed in the same household are two other women who could have a 5 year old child. Good Morning all, I was in the process of removing all living individuals from the history files andfound that it was going to be a rather huge task. If you have a family history file on the Emanuel, Bulloch, Camden or Johnson Co. web site, please send me a new one without living individuals. See the new policy below: GAGenWeb Project Privacy Policy The GAGenWeb Project is dedicated to the free exchange of genealogical information on the World Wide Web. Our goal is to provide free genealogical information for the family researcher in a manner that will protect the privacy of living persons by not sharing personal information about them without their permission. In order to provide the most protection, some genealogical information may not be available to the researcher. Being aware that the sharing of information online is essential to family history research, and that living persons have a right to privacy, The GAGenWeb Project and the volunteers who make up the Project will abide by the following guidelines when publishing personal information of any person on a Project site. Project Volunteers should:recognize that the legal right to privacy may limit how information is used on their Web site(s). never knowingly include information of living persons on their site(s) without that person's prior approval. provide information, as needed, to contributors on the need to protect the privacy of their living relatives. ask contributors if permission has been granted by living people for the sharing of personal information about them. remove any information upon receipt of a request by the person listed at the earliest possible time. Allowable exceptions to this policy are: Census records transcriptions or other facsimiles of U. S. Census Bureau schedules are acceptable for use on Project sites, though a Project volunteer should remove any person's census record upon request by that person. Marriage records transcriptions or other facsimiles of county marriage records are acceptable for use on Project sites, though a Project volunteer may choose a specific cut-off date for their local or special project. A Project volunteer should remove any person's name from a marriage record upon request by that person. Cemetery surveys compiled cemetery headstones are acceptable for use on Project sites, though a Project volunteer should remove any living person's headstone transcription upon request by that person. Obituaries the names of surviving family members, pallbearers, and friends listed in obituaries may be published, if all other personal information (such as place of street address, employer, etc.) on those persons is redacted. Carol, Did your ALLEN ancestors move to Macon Co., Ala? My ancestor, Shadrack Perry had some business and community ties with a Frank Allen, I believe (first name could very well be incorrect...it's late, and I don't have my notes at hand)...seems like maybe "Burke Allen", this would have been in Columbus, Ga. and Macon Co. Ala. about 1830+....but before 1836. Interesting the same names keep popping up! Trisha Hubbard Green ggg-grandaughter of Shadrack Perry and Elizabeth Douglass Perry, (Unk:) Washington Co, Ga., Muskogee co, Ga.. Macon co., Ala. Thanks.
Okay, Ya'll have my attention: I have a Shadrack Perry, whose nephew, James Madison Perry ( went by the name Madison Perry) married a girl from NC, Mary Ann Jane Bright...(always thought Easons, were somehow related to the Perrys)... The Perrys, Easons were in Pitt County( and others nearby) in N.C. prior to coming to Ga. The Perrys lived in Washington County, Ga. from about (approx) 1810 till 1825. James Perry, son of Sr. Shadrack, and father of Madison, and William , and Michael Perry. Let me know if any of this makes sense to you, or whether or not any of it sounds familiar enough to trade more names and places. Good hunting! Trisha Hubbard Green
