I recenty visited with the grand daughter of Josephine Thompson Cowart. I was told that Jospehine and all her children with the exception of Lewis were buried at Port Myaca, Fl. Lewis is buried in Bronson, Fl. Name of cemetery unknown. There is a old and a new section of Port Myaca and they are buried in the old section where there is also a memorial to 1600 of the victims of the 1928 Hurricane that devasted the Lake Okeechobee, FL area Port Myaca is also known as the Pahokee City Cemetery. Josephine first married Eleazer Lewis Cowart. He passed away and she married R.E Cowart. Eleazer Cowart is the father of all the children. Josephine is the sister of E.A Thompson, Benjamin Thompson and William Thompson. Daughter of Solomon Thompson and Clarissa Elizabeth Griffith Hope this helps some of you researchers Bobbie

Surnames: Wadford-Watford-Hubbard-Hammock Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Cc.2ADI/674 Message Board Post: I am researching my g-grandfather, William Henry Whadford, 1860’s-1939. His original surname/family connection may be Wadford, Watford, Wafford, Wofford, Wolford, Walford, Woodford, Whitford, Halford, Alford or a close variation from Emanuel County with Alabama connections. William Henry Whadford was supposedly born September 15, 1862(?) in Alabama(?) approximately during the Civil War years (different years on different censuses 1900-1930) and the tale told is that his family may have originally come from the Carolinas and/or Georgia to perhaps Newton, Dale County, Alabama, where he may have been born. He was orphaned at a young age when his family may have died in a "plague" possibly on a river(house)boat and the story has it he was discovered alone after a couple of days. What happened to him next is unknown, as he may have been sent to an orphanage or home, but at some point, he was claimed by a supposed “uncle” where he may have been an indentured servant on a farm. This may have been in Alabama or Florida, but ran away with supposed “cousins” when he was a young boy and they ended in Texas. The family is able to trace him from his first marriage to Mary E. Havens on October 25, 1885 in Rains County, Te! xas. There is an 1870 census of Shelby County, Hillsboro, P.O., Alabama, page 423 that lists a Willie Wadford, but I cannot find any further information: Hubbard, James D. age 24, M, W, Farmer b. Alabama. Mollie, age 20, F, W, Keeping house, b. Alabama. Walter R. or B., age 1 , M, W, At Home, b. Alabama. Wadford, ? (Annie, (N)Annie, Ammie short for Amelia?), age 25, F, W, At Home, b. Alabama. Wadford, Willie, age 4, M, W, At Home, b. Alabama. There is also an 1880 census of Butler County, Oaky Streak, Alabama, page 496 that lists a William Wadferd and I cannot find any further information on this family/listing either: Hammock, George, age 49, M, W, Farmer, b. Alabama. Sarah, age 49, F, W, Wife, b. Alabama. Elizabeth, age 18, F, W, Daughter, b. Alabama. Wadferd, William, age 24, M, W, Laborer, b. Alabama. If you have any information or search suggestions, please contact me at NLCOMPTON@RMCI.NET.
The 1880 Tattnall Co Ga census is for "Sharlotte/Scharlotte", maiden name unknown to me. She was married to William S. Driggers by 1860 and they are listed in the Tattnall Co census. Both were listed as born in South Carolina. In the household are William's older children and four younger children by Sharotte. William Driggers is listed in the 1850 Marlboro District South Caroline census with four children and two older woman, but no wife. The 1870 Tattnall census listed "Jane" married to Joseph Williams. In this household are also children listed with the surname of "Griffins" that are the same children listed in the 1860 William/Sharlotte Driggers household. By 1880, these children are again listed as Driggers, living in the house of Scharlotte Williams, their mother, and her Williams children. Charoltte Williams, born 29 Dec 1833, died 15 July 1906, is buried Harden's Chapel Cemetery, Toombs Co Ga. Tattnall Co Ga Marriages 1850-1891: W. D. Hello list, I am researching the family of James Marsh of Emanuel Co Ga. I am interested in any help with this information, taken from the U.B. Marsh book: Grants for Military Service-Georgia. Source: Ga Archives. "Identical land bounty certificates were issued to ELIJAH MARSH, JOHN MARSH, and NATHAN MARSH and each requested the grants to be 287 1/2 acres of land in Washington Co, Ga.* The certificates stated: "State of Georgia: This is to certify that John Marsh* has steadfastly done his duty since the passing an Act at Augusta to wit 20th August 1784 until the total expultion of the Brittish from this State and that he cannot to my knowledge or belief be convicted of plundering or disrupting the country is therefore under Said Act entitled to a bounty of 250 acres of land. Given under my hand this 8th Sept., 1784. (s) Elijah Clarke, Col. By his Orders(s)______Freeman. *Identical certificates issued to Elijah and Nathan Marsh. *Washington Co records destroyed; extant only from 1865, Burke Co records extant only from 185-." I know that the Nathan Marsh mentioned here settled in old Glascock, now Warren Co Ga. Who were John and Elijah? Does this mean the three men served in the Georgia militia during the Revolutionary War? Also, I know that most Burke Co records were destroyed, is this also true of Washington Co? Also, does anyone have the current e-mail address for Faith Marsh Hand? I would appreciate the information, but please send privately. Also, in the 1827 Ga land lottery, a Martha Marsh of Washington Co Ga won land in Troup Co Ga. Who was she? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Carol B. Miller

NOTE: This is the third time I have sent this email.....it has never shown up. Please accept my apologies if you have rec'd this more than once. Teresa Hall ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------------- While searching through some old information, I found information on Henry Hall (listed below). I just cannot remember who posted it or where I found it. If you know who posted it, or can add anything, I would really appreciate it. More specifically, looking for dates on the two Henry Hall's listed. Thanks, Teresa Hall My gggf was Houston Henry Hall of Emanuel Co GA. His father was Henry Hall of Burke Co GA who was born in NC. The following is information I compiled to use in trying to find his ancestors in NC. There is an Edwin in this family. Did your Edwin use any of the following names for his children? The 1820 Census of Burke County GA enumerates the James Hall household as follows: 1m aged 45+ (b before 1775) 2m aged 18-25 (b 1795 - 1802) 1m aged 16-18 (b 1803 - 1804) 1m aged 10-15 (b 1805 - 1810) 1m less than 10 (b 1810 - 1820) 1f aged 45+ (b before 1775) 1f aged 10-15 (b 1805 - 1820) Six persons are engaged in agriculture; there are no slaves. Neighbors preceding this household are... Polly Peterson, Abner Holliday, aged 45+, Simon Lowery, aged 45+ To the other side are... Joshua Odom, aged 26-45, Mathew Spain, aged 45+, Lwellan Spain, aged 26-45 In the Georgia Lottery of 1820 James Hall of Torrance Militia District in Burke County drew a lot in Early County Section 3, Lot 20. To participate in this lottery, James Hall would have had to qualify by one of the following methods a) be an inhabitant of Georgia since December 1815 and have a wife, a son less than 18, or an unmarried daughter, b) be a soldier of the Indian War and had residence in GA during or since military service, or c) be an indigent or invalid soldier in the Revolutionary Army or the War of 1812. Early County lots contained 250 acres and required an $18 grant fee. Whether or not James Hall claimed his lot has not been examined. In Acts of the General Assembly of the State of Georgia, 1830 we find on page 168 (relief): For the relief of Henry H Hall and Irwin Hall of Burke Co, in 1829, entered themselves as securities for Kinchen Hall for his appearance in the succeeding term of court. (Assented to 14 December 1830) This act suggests a family relationship between Henry H Hall and Irwin Hall with a third Kinchen Hall for whom there is no record in Burke County or elsewhere in Georgia. In 1830 James Hall has either died or left Burke County. In 1830 the 75th District of Burke County on page 127 and 128 are the following households: EDWIN Hall, aged 30-39(b 1790 - 1800); (Simeon Lowery, aged 60-69) Irwin Hall, aged 20-29 (b 1801 - 1810) (five households including J H T Kilpatrick) Henry H Hall, aged 20-29 (b 1801 - 1810) (Matthew Spain, aged 50-59) (more than two dozen households) Eli Hall, aged 20-29 (b 1801-1810) The presence of Simeon Lowery and Matthew Spain suggests the neighborhood is the same as the one in which James Hall resided in 1820; and the ages of the Hall men fall into the ranges of the young men in the household of James Hall. Still unaccounted for are a male born 1810-1820 an a girl born 1805-1810. This is not my research, just a query I copied many years ago. I do search Price. I think mine is Cader Price, Sr who died in Montgomery co Ga about 1805. His son was John Price who died there or Laurens co c 1811 and I believe I come from him. I have talked to some of the Rice Price researchers and some of them agree Cader and Rice were probably related. I can not get past Cader. Looks like this query is relating to Lloyd Price? Hope it helps you.
